Some of you may know that the artists in the old Ward Bakery Building on Mahoning Ave. (across the street from the U-Haul/Isaly's building) held a biannual open house and sale.  Well, this year, this event is growing considerably to encompass several locations from Fellows Gardens to downtown. (The Lemon Grove, downtown, is not included in the link, but are having their own event to showcase the artists in the establishment's "immediate family.")

Here is the link, and a snippet from the article:

As I'm sure you've heard, Youngstown and the Mahoning Commons have a new Art Festival. With the introduction of the Calvin Center Idea Incubator as the new addition to the Youngstown Cultural Community, grand expansion was necessary. On May 1st and 2nd, 2010, from noon till 5 pm (check times on each venue), most businesses on lower Mahoning will be open at least one of the days and will be holding special events in celebration of the Festival. Most of the businesses and cultural organizations of the Mahoning Commons will be involved, including Fellows Riverside Gardens, the Old Ward Bakery, Star Supply, Rockview Christian Church, The Calvin Center Idea Incubator, the Victorian Players, and the historic B&O Station/Brewery, tentatively.

I know some were disappointed that they missed the Italian Festival last summer, so I'll try to post some of the larger events that might be of interest, when I become aware of them.

^Thanks for the info.

In an effort to create tourism synergy, three established downtown-area events will be aligned on the same weekend.

The Summer Festival of the Arts, the Youngstown Jazz Festival and the Tour of the Valley bicycle race will be July 9-11.

Regional leaders are calling it “The Biggest Weekend of the Summer.”

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Greater Youngstown Italian Fest will feature music, two city blocks of rides, more than 40 food booths and 25 craft and retail vendors.

The three-day festival, in the city’s downtown area, opens at 11 a.m. July 30. The festival opens at 3 p.m. July 31 and at 11 a.m. Aug. 1. It closes at 11 each night.

The event attracts 40,000 to 50,000 people annually, said John Rossetti Jr., the festival’s chairman.

Thanks. I'm going to be in Youngstown for much of the day Friday for meetings. I think I'll stick around into the late afternoon. ;)

^Maybe we'll run into each other.  I'm not sure what my plans are yet, though.

Look for this guy....

I'll try to look for you, but I'm a little easier to pick out in a crowd. :)

Nice woodwork!! Is that your house?

Thanks!  Yes, that is my current house. (I'm still in the process of buying a fixer-upper on the north side--Wick Park Neighborhood)

I got some pictures on Friday during lunch hour and it was already pretty busy. Looked like mostly downtown office workers -- glad to see there's so many of them nowadays, with more coming.

I'll post the pictures this evening in the Ohio photos thread.

I stopped in during lunch and after work.  The crowds were about the same at noon and 5.  But, I think it gets even more busy later in the evenings.

Looking forward to your pics.

I didn't take any pictures this year.  Due to personal circumstances, I wasn't in the mood for photography, and they would probably have been very similar to the pics I took last year anyway.

Sorry, I haven't had much of a break since Friday. I keep forgetting the process is pretty time-consuming -- download the pics, resize them, host them at Photobucket and then post them here.

^ No need to rush.

If you walked or drove by Wick Park on Saturday, it likely looked a bit greener than usual — the trees and grass notwithstanding.

That’s because under the canopy of trees was a canopy of tents, under which was a wealth of information about green jobs, opportunities and technologies.

I haven't attended one of these yet, but I always try to put up my outdoor Christmas decorations while this event takes place, so that I can hear the steam whistles while I work.

I originally posted this in the wrong forum, so I hope everyone interested was able to make it to this event.
