Augusta, Georgia's second largest city is home to 197,000 people. It is known for being the home of the Master's Golf Tournament and James Brown. Georgia Regents University, Georgia's flagship public medical college, Paine College and Augusta Tech are also in the city. Fort Gordon, home of the Army's signal command and the new home the Army's Cyber Command, is a major pillar of the city's economy. In December of 2013, the Army announced it was relocating the cyber command from Fort Meade to Fort Gordon. The move will bring 10,000 new people to city by 2019.

This is a shot of the Augusta Canal and Butt Memorial Bridge. The Augusta Canal is the only operating industrial canal left in the South. The Butt Memorial Bridge was built as a memorial to Major Archibald Butt, an Augusta native that was killed when the Titanic sank.

The next few photos are of the Laney Walker redevelopment project. The city launched this project a couple of years ago. It will transform the area over the next several decades.

Georgia has some charming small-midsized cities.

Yeah... this looks like a pretty cool little town!

Next time I am in Georgia skip Atlanta and see Macon and Augusta! This has definitively placed those two cities on my cognitive map.

Where are the pedestrians?

Augusta has a nice appearance.  The Laney Walker project looks terrific, I want to move there now!  Really enjoyed the photos.
