I was told by a family member that the hilly areas around Licking County have been host to many Satanic and occult activities and ritual activities over the years, and that the outlying areas around Newark have an occult culture. Ritual sacrifice of animals, etc. To the extent that you wouldn't want to hike into these areas after nightfall.

We've been pretty hard on satanicinvestagator but I doubt there are no problems with cult groups in the state. Satanism is a specific thing, however & a lot of people assume anything Earth based, like Wicca, is Satanic. That's, of course, hogwash as Satanism is a part of the Christian religion. The Gothardites are probably one of the worst cults around. But it would be interesting to see what satanicinvestigator comes up with. That being said, it's probably more of a rural issue.

Oh, hell, I tried. :) What I was told was that these activities are destructive, quite a bit beyond the offbeat hobby level... we're not talking a bunch of innocuous Wiccans or drum circles or anything like that. Things like mutilated animals, and even some mysterious deaths.
