I took these last month. The two stacks facing Front St. were imploded today.

I wondered if you would update us when I saw the implosion news from the Blade. It will be interesting to see what they do with the remaining smokestack.

I really miss that plant on visits to Toledo.

From what I've heard, they have to lower the height of the big smokestack to meet FAA regulations. Anyone know if such height rules for smokestacks exist? The stack is only 300 feet tall, so much shorter than some of the skyscrapers in Toledo and the big bridge right next to it.

The city is planning to save the big stack as an historic landmark (similar to what they did at the old Jeep plant and a few other demolished industrial sites in the city). That plant was one of the largest on earth in its day.

I visited Toledo recently, and talking to relatives in the area, it sounds like there are still zero viable plans to develop that huge swath of land along the Maumee. It's such a shame, and I think the city rushed that demolition for a short-sighted/non-existent goal. Previous plans for the Marina District included saving the whole plant or at least the most historic part of it. It could have been like the Distillery District in Toronto or the Powerplant in Balitmore Inner Harbor. More sad days in Toledo...
