Posted August 4, 201410 yr Part of my first visit to Cincinnati I also explored a bit of Newport (already posted a photo thread) and Covington. Here is a selection of photos from that city. Lovell-Graziani House Laidley House Fallis-Lovell House I did the best I could shooting against the sun right at mid-day Ditto Madison Avenue definately feels like stepping back into the mid-20th century. A few more shots of Covington can be found in my Flickr album http://www.flickr.com/photos/eridony/sets/72157645102146387
August 5, 201410 yr I love Covington. They have some great architecture over there. It's a shame what they did to their riverfront and along 4th Street, though. Great photos! “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
August 5, 201410 yr Thanks for the shots. I lived in Covington for 15 years. Loved the convenience of being a few blocks and a bridge from attending Reds games.
August 5, 201410 yr One of the greatest urban suburbs in the country. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
August 7, 201410 yr AWESOME! That architecture is to drool for ... A lot of people would choose Newport over Covington, but I'd take Covington hands down.
August 7, 201410 yr Would love to see Madison better utilized. That area where madison meets pike street is so european feeling as I think there is literally only one surface lot there. Its probably one of the best case studies of how transit could help an area (compare to say Boston).
August 8, 201410 yr AWESOME! That architecture is to drool for ... A lot of people would choose Newport over Covington, but I'd take Covington hands down. I liked both. There aren't many cities I don't like. However I would also saw I enjoyed Covington more. It has such an intact business district! Some of the buildings seemed a little run down, but they are still standing so nothing is stopping them from returning to their original glory. There are some great homes too!

I think a streetcar line along Madison and then crossing the Ohio and meeting up with the new Cincinnati system would be awesome. I think it would probably be the first modern streetcar line crossing a state line. That of course would increase the number of roadblocks for such a plan.
August 8, 201410 yr This looks like an old Woolworth's: This looks like an old Montgomery Wards: A contact on Flickr mentioned that first building looked like a Woolworths. That second one was absolutely a Montgomery Wards. If you look along the top of the facade you can see the Spirit of Progress. This is it on an old Wards store in Three Rivers, Michigan.
August 12, 201410 yr The same statue can be found old Motgomery Wards main office (at Chicago Ave and the Chicago River) which has the same figure but as a statue on top of an art deco tower: http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn281/SallyGreene2008/02SallyGreenAlbum/UZY20000000036-12.jpg This looks like an old Woolworth's: This looks like an old Montgomery Wards: A contact on Flickr mentioned that first building looked like a Woolworths. August 12, 201410 yr Great photos! I've been helping with a project in Covington, and I've really fallen in love with not only the urban form but the personality of the city. They're doing some pretty great things on the redevelopment front. The Awesome Collective is taking the traditional block club format of civic engagement and getting young people involved. There's some interesting approaches being employed on Pike and in the Mainstrasse area, and there's also a large-scale creative placemaking initiative in the Westside neighborhood, where an artisan/maker community is starting to pop up, including the redevelopment of the old Hellmann Lumber building (which is pretty epic!). Thanks again for the pics!

Yes, I've actually seen that building but don't have any pictures of it myself.

August 13, 201410 yr Great photos! If only Covington could be annexed as a neighborhood of Cincinnati. I'd love to own a home in Covington if it weren't in Kentucky (no offense to Kentucky)
