October 6, 20231 yr Correct. At this point, the only thing happening with the Gateway East Garage is that it's being bought by the Guardians. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
October 19, 20231 yr On the Planning Commissions Oct 20th Agenda There is a plethora of signage that The Guardians are seeking to add or adjust to the ballpark. I feel most of this is overkill and redundant. Also the left field district and right field district signage is unimaginative and would love to see what they will look like from inside the ballpark.
October 19, 20231 yr I believe the plan is to remove the curved truss sign showing #12. The renderings/presentation is confusing https://www.dropbox.com/sh/enwn6tzytpoqyzg/AACJWT6K-2NeNEOejUTSfk8Ea/Downtown Flats Design Review?dl=0&preview=Cleveland+Guardians+Signage.pdf&subfolder_nav_tracking=1
October 19, 20231 yr I was hoping they would take this opportunity to at least refine the Guardians script logo, though a general design refresh would have been welcome. Inside the stadium the graphics lean into the art deco aesthetic with the fonts used and pinstriping on the score boards. It would be more cohesive, and I think, interesting if the script was in a similar style. I was also hoping there would be some "Guardians of Baseball" statues added to the brick façade on Carnegie/Ontario.

October 19, 20231 yr Unless it’s been renewed and I missed it, next year is the last year of the naming agreement with Progressive. It’s only a small thing, but the physical decoupling of the Guardians logo and the sponsors name on the corner of E9th and Carnegie, makes a change up easier. Most importantly though, it does get rid of that ‘stuck in the 90s’ and yellowing logo monument. My hovercraft is full of eels
October 19, 20231 yr I also wish the large digital billboards would not be added to the exterior. I like that the upper concourse had unobstructed views of the ballparks surroundings. Progressive Insurance must be renewing their naming rights if they are going through all of this design review with their name attached to the renovations. Otherwise a huge waste of time and money Edited October 19, 20231 yr by dave2017

October 20, 20231 yr This is what the design will be including the remaining curved truss sign. To me it's a lot of wasted money
October 20, 20231 yr I hope they don’t remove the curved truss sign. That is iconic. All the other enhancements are more than welcome. The blue and red lightning is particularly classy. I would put LED screens where they are proposing the player photos. That way the photos could be dynamic instead of static.

October 20, 20231 yr That red & blue lighting intensity needs to be toned down and play at a softer level. Too much color can have the effect of looking noisy rather than impressive. Something a little more subtle will come off as higher class. it should look less a like a fairground attraction tent, a carnival ride, or <<clutching my pearls>> a minor league ballpark. 🔴🔵🔴🔵🔴🔵 This isn't a balloon to be popped, it's a significant piece of architecture in our major urban center. It can be lighted to look stylish & fun without coming off as silly. Edit: Maybe amp up this lighting during home-stands or special events. There is affordable technology to program brightness & color on-the-fly, and avoid the nonstop glow of a circus wagon . Edited October 20, 20231 yr by ExPatClevGuy

If it already says “Progressive Field” twice in my direct line of sight, do I really need to be welcomed to “Progressive Field” a third time?!

I'll hazard a guess the top sign is intended for drivers on the innerbelt, the middle one for drivers on Carnegie and Ontario, and the bottom one for pedestrians.

Agreed. I'll also guess that Progressive is paying for them and may have even specified same. Just because they don't want to make their employees park downtown doesn't mean they don't want a presence there.
October 21, 20231 yr I would love to see how the Progressive Field logo at the top looks like from inside the ballpark.

Fair enough. Given only the top sign is probably visible to Innerbelt drivers, then one of the bottom two (which appear visible to both pedestrians and surface street drivers) has to go.
October 21, 20231 yr They should put a few more Progressive Field signs on and around the stadium to make sure people know where the Gaurdians play. Edited October 21, 20231 yr by newyorker
October 21, 20231 yr If Progressive wants to be so ubiquitous l suggest they really put their money where their mouth is and build a hq downtown. Let them put their name on that!
November 8, 20231 yr Man that hurts.. Can we just go back to the days of the centerfield bleachers and mezzanine level?

December 15, 20231 yr From LanceAerial's instagram. I agree with @freethink I guess the seating will not be replaced all at once this season and the other green seats will be replaced the following year. It will be odd to see this not fully completed until 2025 Edited December 15, 20231 yr by dave2017 added text
December 15, 20231 yr Not a big deal in the scheme of things, but I really liked the green. Much classier. My hovercraft is full of eels

December 15, 20231 yr Ugh. I liked the green. Blue just looks so cold. Gund Arena originally had blue seats which I hated. They were eventually replaced with red. Edited December 15, 20231 yr by LibertyBlvd

Matching colors makes it easier to hide empties on game days. AT&T Arena in San Antonio famously used black seats with various colored ones mixed in as an attempt to look like people on TV.
December 15, 20231 yr If the stadium is full you won't see the seats. A seat color doesn't matter to me, the product does. Sent from my Pixel 8 Pro using Tapatalk

December 15, 20231 yr I liked the multi-colored seats at the old Richfield Coliseum. But I suppose it's easier to do all one color. I probably would have gone with red instead of blue. Oh well.
January 13, 20241 yr The Cleveland Guardians released a new website to track the renovations happening at Progressive Field. Many new renderings and updated design details They have also given names to the new areas. January 13, 20241 yr Let's hope it looks as good when completed. The renderings of the previous renovation were a little deceptive, specifically pertaining to right field upper deck.
March 8, 20241 yr I actually don't know how I feel about the upper decks. Is that essentially the final form? If so it looks like something is missing.

I can't wait for all the seats to be blue. SRO and cheap monthly passes are the way of the future. Pack them in at a cost effective way. I prefer SRO to "good" seats (most of the time). More places we have to stand and drink, the better.

March 8, 20241 yr Phew, I had no idea what the place was called. Not like there wasn't a HUGE sign above it. I kid, but the added PROGRESSIVE ads that were in the renderings are going to be a lot.
March 8, 20241 yr That upperdeck area with the increased airflow should be more environmentally friendly. Definitely saves on air conditioning.

The concessions upstairs are barely open as is. I think it all depends on attendance this season. It’s disappointing these areas won’t be fully built out like the Corner (although the terrace area looks promising). But it makes sense for these areas to be flexible depending on demand. They’re really in the least desirable areas of the park and I can’t think of a better way to activate it. Obviously opening day will be a time to experience it all. I’m sure after that we’ll see quite a lull (and plenty of commentary) until the weather heats up.
March 9, 20241 yr I was playing around and wondered what the outfield upper canopy were to be removed would look like. I would just add another LED ribbon along the old line of where the canopy started and would add to more awnings over the restroom facilities to strengthen the overall look Edited March 9, 20241 yr by dave2017 cleaned up rendering and added view from outside ballpark
