A little less Progressive this morning.

I assume they are removing the sign in the middle.

Nooooooo that's the best sign.

Relax.  Probably going to put a bigger one there.

Progressive is replacing it because their name isn't on it enough. New sign will read:

Progressive welcomes you to Progressive Field brought to you by Progressive!

This article from 2023 said that the digital marquee board was put on hold at the time. Maybe they are going to put it up for next season.

I welcome the loss of the cartoony baseball bats. Somewhere along the lines all sports logos went to this clumsy design style. Good riddance.

Per this story it seems those signs are just being refurbished in some way while there is a new electronic message board coming 9th/Carnegie.  We love the news of the upper deck lighting: Salcer says similar to other new lighting schemes going on in downtown Cleveland, including at Playhouse Square, Progressive Field is adding uplighting under the seating in the upper bowl area. The rendering below shows alternating blue and red lights, although Salcer says any variance of color will be available.

Sorry Progressive, but 3 signs is overkill.

I honestly understand the top sign. They probably wanted to display it easily to highway travelers.

Looks like they’ve incorporated a big C into the seat design right behind home plate.

They are attempting to transform what was once one of the three best stadiums in MLB into the tackiest.

I think they did a great job of righting their wrongs. The only thing that I would consider tacky would be the progressive signs but that may be more of Progressive's doing's more than the Guardians.

When were you even there last?

I don't necessarily think the "C" in the upper deck was money well spent. Once bodies are in those seats it isn't seen or if half filled what will that feature look like

Surprised it isn't a big Progressive P with how their branding is everywhere 🤣

They were replacing all the seats anyway, I doubt there was any extra cost to change a few hundred from blue to red. I think the intent was for the "C" to be displayed when the stadium was empty, not for anything on gamedays.

I note this is pretty common in football stadiums in Europe.  Usually the whole name.

Maybe some will view it as a rating for the renovations done over the years! LOL

In FC Cincinnati's stadium, the seats are mostly blue but they re-created the team crest with orange seats in the lower bowl. Makes it more interesting to look at when the stadium is empty before and after games.

Ugly day for a pic, but from yesterday - curious if they'll get the greens wiped out by opening day.

So are those seats in upper deck really red or is it just a tarp or something they put over the seats temporarily?

It would be nice to see the parking lots around there get developed soon.

Couldn't tell without being in the stadium, but they seem like red seats. Idk how my bldg's security would take to me bringing binoculars in to double check lol

I can confirm that they are red seats.

Again, who in here that are complaining have even been to the ballpark recently? It’s still one of the best, with tons of good food options, great seats, and great sections where one doesn’t have to sit and watch. Some of you just like to talk out of your you know what.

I totally agree. I think it can become a long-term classic.

I know there are always elements to optimize and new trends but I’ve been to a ton of stadiums and ours still stacks up well. The overall shape is great and the concourses (maybe other than behind the bleachers) are just fine, especially compared to classic parks.

But the location- especially with the renaissance in Ohio City is just fantastic. You have plenty of parking options and easy access to the center of downtown. I make the trek over the Lorain Carnegie bridge all summer with my $49 pass. And this past summer the hoard of fans walking over after even weeknight games made it impossible to navigate a scooter. Pretty darn great atmosphere.

The ballpark had always been great until they added those clunky boxes in right field. Took care of those last year and, on paper at least, the work being done now will only add to the place. I think it's a real gem for the city. Those saying otherwise...well l would bet they haven't seen the work being done and if they were honest, one visit would bring them around.

We have a lot of letdowns with our developnent around these parts but the ballpark is not one of them. We're fortunate to have it.

Thanks for the reminder as we too were first puzzled why so many were on the bridge in jerseys one day when for years it was so desolate. Then we noticed it again. Please take notice planner people, developers and potential residents - It's Alive.

Only the 11 "central" sections of the upper deck were replaced, a little under half of the total seats in 400/500.

It looks like they were still moving into the newly renovated team office building.

The Terrace hall entrance from the left field plaza is a really nice new way to get to the upper deck standing room only areas. It is a little circuitous, but it provides a third (1st entirely enclosed) escalator route to the top deck. You could still smell the new paint.

The walkway up included a nice display of various significant game worn jerseys.

The biggest change to the stadium with this renovation was the removal of the (almost) continuous roof between both dugouts. I don't think it changed the sightlines too much for the lower bowl area behind the old roof, but the area does feel more open to the actual field. As is the case with the premium seating areas at a lot of stadiums, they seemed to be one of the most empty sections during play throughout the ballpark.

CLE-4-9-25-6.jpg

Hammy did say on the radio that the rest of the upper deck would be changed out to the blue after this season. The especially brutal winter set them back on schedule to get it done before this season.

I appreciate the tip on the roof over the seating behind the plate, I watched the game in the late innings and couldn't place why behind home plate felt "off" from what I was used to.

I really try to appreciate our ballpark and how special it is, but nothing will make you more thankful for what we have then visiting other cities. Back in March I went to a game in KC for the Guards series there. I'm not trying to say anything bad about KC or Kauffman (its a nice ballpark and I get why people enjoy it), but I prefer Progressive so much more. It simultaneously feels more grand and more intimate than Kauffman while also  being in the perfect location downtown, not some surface lot (which cost more to access than my actual ticket). Right now former Indians minority owner John Sherman is working to get his Royals a new ballpark (with ~$1 billion in public money) closer to town.

I'm so glad that we already have a stadium right where it should be, with continuous renovations and modifications to keep it updated.

^ We were just in SoCal, taking some vacation and also following the Guardians in San Diego and Anaheim along the way. Petco Park calls itself ‘The Best Stadium in Baseball’ and it’s certainly very good, but annoying in that you can’t really walk around the stadium once inside and stay connected/ in sight of the field. That’s something that’s been a tremendous improvement at Progressive Field in how they’ve opened up the concourses.

I actually preferred Angel Stadium. Yeah, it’s a bit dated, but it also wasn’t trying hard to be cool. Very authentic inside, just like Progressive, but unlike Progressive, surrounded by a sea of parking asphalt and 4-6 lane roads. We drank before the game at the ‘nearest’ bar, Golden Road(?) Brewery. I’m gonna say it was a longer walk from there to the stadium, than our apartment is to Progressive.

It was a mild winter snow-wise and only slightly below normal temp-wise.

Average seasonal snowfall for Cleveland: 63.8 inches. This season so far? 31.3 inches.

Median December 1-February 28 temperature for Cleveland: 30°. This season? 29.2° making it the 70th coldest (or 84th warmest).

Perhaps we've just gotten spoiled by the winters we no longer get?

I live in LA and used to go to a couple Angels games a year when Ohtani was on the team - my wife is from Osaka and a big fan.  I am not a fan of Angels stadium at all. I’m not really a fan of Dodgers Stadium either, although the renovations a few years ago helped.

I went to a Guardians game when I was in Cleveland last August and it’s amazing to me how much of a better experience Progressive Field is than other fields I visited.

Oh, don't disagree there. This winter was more in line with what we used to get, but we've had nothing but mild winters for quite a while now, so by comparison it was a rough one, but compared to historical, yeah it wasn't bad at all.

Still probably not a great idea to have people tearing out and replacing seats when it's in the single digits before wind chill.

My broader point I guess was, the team has at least acknowledged that it's not finished, but will be after one more offseason. The new blue seats do look great though. The Jake is still one of the top ballparks to me and it's so great to see that it's constantly being improved instead of the team throwing up their hands and demanding a replacement.

I'm glad the "shipping containers" are gone, but I'm a bit bothered by the empty gap under the roof in that area.  Maybe some panels or banners there would improve the look.

I thought that the plan all along was 3 off-seasons for the seats. Regardless, the new ones look great, and I'm excited to see the 100% finished product next year!

To be honest, I consider this a win:

They finished the exterior way before the interior, so It wasn't very obvious once they actually opened. Not to mention its near the least used line at the Center Field gate (pro tip: always go left when approaching the lines to enter the stadium!)

Because it was kind of secluded, and very obviously only caters to sports betters, it felt like it a had a "gambler's den" vibe. If I bet on sports, I would have just used one of the billion betting apps on my phone rather than everyone in line thinking I'm a degenerate gambler lmao.
