August 15, 20159 yr Does anyone know how many more seats will be eliminated for this next round of renovations? The only part that bothers me with what is proposed is the red brick arched window details. Not sure what this details has to do with the ballpark design. I also agree they should sink some money into fixing the upper right field decks from phase one.
August 15, 20159 yr Well I do know one thing I'm going to be paying zero attention to these initial renderings...for now anyways
August 31, 20159 yr No graphics, yet.... http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2015/09042015/DRC2015_9_3.pdf Downtown/Flats Design Review Agenda Thursday September 3rd, 2015 *Final Design Development Approval 3. September 1, 20159 yr http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2015/09042015/index.php Not a fan of how many more seats will bee removed nor the addition of red brick! I wish they would address the overwhelming negative response of the upper right deck boxes. MAny poor design decisions in reducing this ballpark a minor league field.
September 1, 20159 yr I don't actually think it's red brick, I believe it's tan brick (the same as was used at The Corner) they are going to use. The renderings are poor, but they state using the same materials as in 'Phase I.' I'm curious what is going on with the top row of boxes/radio row...were they simply lazy or are they actually going to wall the entire thing off?? Dear god I hope not the second option.

December 14, 20159 yr What is going on with so many seat removals? Not sure I have ever seen any plans for the left field corner seats to be removed. Are there any renderings of that area?

I had a feeling you would be chiming in with that comment haha. I was surprised to see that as well. I never saw renderings for that area
December 14, 20159 yr Maybe we could turn The Prog into a place like Blossom Music Center where we show up with blankets and sit on sloping concrete in the lower deck?? "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
December 14, 20159 yr The Indians didn't give renderings but had talked about installing a standing-room area as an extension of the Home Run Porch... No corner left field bar. I wonder what this next set of renovations will reduce ballpark capacity to (went from 43k to 37k last year)? I doubt season ticket demand is through the roof to watch an Opening Day outfield of Lonnie Chisenhall, Abraham Almonte, and Collin Cowgill...
January 8, 20169 yr http://tribevibe.mlblogs.com/tag/progressive-field-enhancements/ January 5, 2016 photo updates from construction of the phase 2 ballpark enhancements. I attached one of many photos from the above link. I just don't get the introduction of the red brick to Progressive Field since it was all done in a yellow brick until last year's Right Field's The Corner was introduced

January 27, 20169 yr I'm curious if Happy Dog will incorporate the customization aspect, which is what they're well known for. Barrio is the same way, but they only have pre selected taco options at the ballpark location

January 29, 20178 yr I was playing around with the upper deck "shipping container" boxes in right field. I wonder if a simple repaint modification could lessen their presence. I moved the names of players to the second row.
January 29, 20178 yr Some black open link fenced-in railings around the fan areas atop each of those monoliths would lessen their enormous visual mass by around 4.5" each. How did the Dolans & "designers" not see this.
January 31, 20178 yr I was hoping this would also include lighting for the outside of Progressive also. Other fields like Comerica for instance are really lit up nice with decorative LED's at night. January 26, 20196 yr Sounds good to me... still can’t get used to the shipping containers and nobody ever seemed to even use them.
January 26, 20196 yr I’m a season ticket holder and got a survey the other day about ideas for the shipping containers. Seems like there are plans to improve their useage. Unfortunately, non of the ideas hinted at their renovation or removal. Edited January 26, 20196 yr by roman totale XVII My hovercraft is full of eels

September 24, 20195 yr So there was a piece from WKYC a couple of days ago regarding Haslems plans for the future of First Energy. In that same story was a brief line from the reporter stating that the Indians/Progressive Field will soon come to the city with a plan for a major renovation of Progressive Field. That was the first I heard of this plan. If that is the case I hope it involves a complete refresh of the exterior which looks every bit of being designed in the 90's.

They might have been referring to updating the lighting and sound systems which apparently is not going to be cheap. I have no problem with the exterior of park, it is the tragedy of the upper right field stands which kills me. Something has to be done up there.
September 24, 20195 yr I thought a few months back there was mention of the fact that they are considering a redo of those shipping containers, as they have NOT been a popular design choice. Hopefully that is the case. EDIT: From the Crains article above back in January: "In the case of the private terraces, Danburg said the Indians are discussing something similar to what the Colorado Rockies and Oakland Athletics have done. If the Indians continue to pursue the option, which would be more than a few years away, the terraces would replace the upper-deck boxes in right field. Those patio areas — which resemble shipping containers and feature retired jersey numbers and the names of community partners — have been the only aspects of an extensive ballpark renovation that have been roundly criticized." I guess we will see if anything comes of this. Edited September 24, 20195 yr by mrclifton88
September 24, 20195 yr I was never a fan of all the exposed white beams on the exterior. I don't think those have been painted since it opened. I would like to see more glass and brick but that's just me. I am just guessing that the Indians are definitely jealous of what has happened with the Q/ RMF. I could see something like that work at Progressive.

September 24, 20195 yr I think the stadium has aged wonderfully. All my out of town friends I bring to a game rave about the place. The setting and location as well. But I agree. Right field upper deck could use a do over. Edited September 24, 20195 yr by marty15

If anyone can dig up the original commercials that ran when the Jake opened, wow, that was a truly great ad campaign. It really sold how special the game is.

Yeah I get that, but I also remember at the time there were thoughts to pay homage to League Park and the brick buildings that were demolished for Gateway, which I would have preferred. Keep in mind the exposed girders were also a cost-saving measure, but at this point I'm just looking for a new fresh paint job.

The off-white is so blah and any kind of rust shows up immediately. I’m definitely in favor of some color if they’re considering an exterior facelift. The rest of the park is outstanding.

September 26, 20195 yr Progressive is such a great park in which to enjoy a baseball game. The connectivity to the city, as was the goal of the recent renovations, is outstanding. There are a lot of cool neighborhoods within the park and the experience there reflects the culture/ personality of the city nicely. It’s another one of Cleveland’s jewels to be proud of.
