In the fall of 2009, I made my first Wick Park Neighborhood tour thread: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,21041.0.html

I was still new to Youngstown's north side, and it was that walk that made me fall in love with the area.

Now, almost 5 years later, I'm living here, and still loving it.  Last night, I took a walk around the neighborhood to enjoy the beautiful summer evening. (For this walk, I stuck mostly to the 2 blocks north and east of the park.)

Some great old homes in that neighborhood from the looks of things. Some need some TLC and it looks like one is getting it. Thanks for the photos!

Oh, more than one is getting needed TLC, it's just that work actually in progress was only visible on one.

what an interesting mix of styles and degrees of upkeep/maintenance. I assume the neighborhood is on the upswing  :-)

The variety of styles and quality of architecture is a big part of why I like the neighborhood.  I think the neighborhood is on the upswing, and the others who have invested so much of their time, energy, and money would probably agree, as well.  But, being Youngstown, with all of its baggage, makes progress slow.

Some nice, well-cared for homes.

Is there a commercial area serving this neighborhood?

I assume this is Youngstown best section?

Thanks for posting.

There is a small commercial area on Elm St. between Madison and Park Ave.  But it's pretty useless for everyday needs.  There are 2 florists, a book store, an empty grocery store, (developer claims he will be making an announcement about a new tenant this fall) and the Youngstown Kitchen Incubator. (http://www.cwkitchenincubator.org/)  Also, the Golden Dawn restaurant is just a little further east, on Wick Ave.  Wick Ave. used to be a commercial corridor, specializing in car dealerships.  But now, it's mostly weedy empty lots, except for the Golden Dawn.

While this is my favorite Youngstown neighborhood, its most stable neighborhoods are suburban in style, and on the southwest side of the city.

Glad to see that it's getting better. Lived in Lyden in the early 00's and it seemed like a few houses where gone and more were looking worse for wear when driving thru a few years later.  Just have to stay safe from the bears now.

Beautiful homes!

Wonderful tour!
