Last night I saw the Cleveland random picture thread and I thought it was a good idea. I did not find one for Columbus so I decided to make one. Hopefully there are enough Columbus area photographers to make this work.

The idea is simple. This is a place for people to post one or two photos (instead of a long series) taken in or around Columbus. I'll start out with a shot I took last fall.

Here's an awesome aerial of the Short North/Campus looking north. It's pretty crazy how much different this view was just 5-6 years ago.

  • Some random pics I took from last month last time I was in town:

  • I attended an event in the rooftop bar of the Hilton. Wow. What a view!!

Great idea for a thread.

Great idea for a thread.

Thanks, but credit should probably be given to KJP since I stole the idea from his Cleveland thread. I just hope other people participate.

If you're referencing the pic I posted, it was at the franklin park conservatory last year.  Haven't been back so not sure if it's still there or not.  I guess at night it looks really nice.

The picture was of part of British artist Bruce Munro's Light exhibit that ran from September to March at the conservatory. I visited the exhibit several times and enjoyed it quite a bit.It really is designed to be best enjoyed at night and worked really well with the different botanical gardens.  Here's a link to artist's page if interested http://www.brucemunro.co.uk/exhibitions/bruce-munro-franklin-park-conservatory/

That park really did turn out better than I thought it was going to turn out.

^I'm not familiar with this park.  Judging by the position of the skyline, is this park across the river and south of Franklinton?

Yes, it is the Scioto Audubon Metro Park and it is adjacent to the Brewery District.

I wasn't sure how old the park was, but nothing there looked more than a few years old.

There is also a nature center there

I love this photo! Did you take this? Awesome composition and colors. Love the way the red is tied together!

Thanks! Yes, I did take it. Sometimes I get lucky.

I thought the climbing wall at Scioto Audubon was some kind of habitat for lions and tigers when I first saw it from I-70 years ago.

It's a habitat for mountain folk.

Now, getting on with the pictures. Behold the mighty Hoover Dam!

I tried to put my store there back in 2009 but the landlord said no. I only wanted about half of the space. It seemed like they didn't want new guys. They held out and got T-Mobile.

That's a pretty sweet sign.  Where is it?

I'm not sure exactly when it happened but I noticed last week Nationwide has put up their new (or old) logo.

Glad you got a pic while it was still there! The "Salvage Dawgs" from DIY Network via Roanoke, VA came and took this down about a year.

Glad I did too. I think I've only gone down that street once so I didn't know it was gone. I took the picture late summer.
