September 24, 20195 yr Saw this on the Columbus Reddit. This shot provides a great view of the recent Children’s Hospital developments, River South developments, Vets Memorial, Gravity, Park’s Edge Condos, Neighborhood Launch, and other various projects that have really improved downtown over the past few years.
October 3, 20195 yr Here's another awesome aerial photo in which you can see some of the good infill projects we have going on right now.
October 7, 20195 yr Here's some pics I took in German Village back in May: I have other pics of buildings from around Columbus and Ohio posted on my Buildings of America Instagram page.

October 11, 20195 yr This person flew a drone over High Street from Lane Ave all the way to Buttles. It's over ten minutes long, but if you are interested in seeing what all has happened and is happening along the High Street corridor it doesn't get much better than this:

Man, it's nearly a seamless transition between campus and the Short North. We're almost there! Edited October 14, 20195 yr by aderwent

Man, it's nearly a seamless transition between campus and the Short North. We're almost there! By my count there are only 8 “non-urban” /parking lots left in that stretch. Greystone, Local Bar Plaza, Check Cashing*, Family Dollar*, Monte Cristo*, OSU Doctors Offices(across from N High Brewing), Kroger & former 7-11. Three of the eight are slated for redevelopment.

I would actually consider the Greystone Apartments to be urban, unless it’s the surface lot next to the apartments you are talking about. Greystone is actually “mixed-use” given it has ground floor retail and provides a nice little “pocket park” in the Short North. The Kroger is about as urban as you can get with a grocery store in a car centric city. Your point stands though. The non-urban sites are very few and dwindling fast!

The Kroger is no more urban than the Fresh Thyme in Worthington. It's not bad, but really should have been a mixed-use development with apartments over the Kroger and integrated parking. The Out of the Closet is also a horrific use of a prime spot. I know it was built when things were down, but we really should have held out another year or two for a great project. Good thing is, that building is ultra cheap, and I can't imagine it would be too costly or difficult to just tear it down and start over.
October 15, 20195 yr ^The Out of the Closet building looks like it was built to house a CVS or Walgreens that never materialized.

I agree Kroger should have been mixed-use; however, Kroger is not in the business of building mixed-use developments. They at least did a halfway decent job by orienting their building along the street rather than having it pushed to the back of a surface lot. Having a full-sized grocery story there is crucial for the surrounding neighborhood, so I'm not going to complain too much about it. I completely forgot about Out of the Closet. You are correct, the building is a horrifically ugly design and it would be great if we could tear it down and start over. With that said, at least it's urban-ish in that the entire building fronts the street and hides the parking lot from High Street.

October 15, 20195 yr 12 minutes ago, aderwent said: I forgot about this project. Is this the first time they've done this type of development? If so, it would make sense for them to do it directly next to their HQ as opposed to an area of a different city that won't let you build over 10-stories.
October 15, 20195 yr Here's another gem from r/Columbus. It's pretty cool to see how prominent High Street is when looking down on the city at night.

Yeah it is their first attempt at developing like this and it seems like quite a nice project from afar. I am curious if they are using this as a test store for exploring/pushing more into urban markets like Target has done or if it is a one off project. I imagine if it goes well we could see them replicating this around the country and maybe even Ohio (fingers crossed). As for the SN location, its like a half attempt at urban, my only hope is that someday they decided to split the lot and redevelop or they decide to develop the pretty sizable patch of grass along the corner of High and King where the parking lot stops.
October 15, 20195 yr A sketch done by someone posted on Instagram. I imagine this is what a supertall would look like on Scioto Peninsula and the Millennial Tower lot.
October 25, 20195 yr Remember when the river was stagnant and gross? I think I prefer the current iteration, especially in its fall colors.
October 25, 20195 yr It had those fountains in it to move water around after it was dredged for the boat races in the late '80s but filled right back in. I don't know how long the fountains stuck around after that.

Not necessarily the right topic to post this maybe, but this photo should totally be somewhere on the Wikipedia page for Columbus. In fact, the majority of the photos of the Columbus and Short North sub section on Wikipedia are incredibly outdated. I'm not much of a technology guru, but hopefully someone with those skills can make updates at some point.

October 25, 20195 yr ^ Something like that. The skyline picture at the top is at least 13 years old. The North Bank Condo tower isn't even built yet.
October 29, 20195 yr Here's an interesting and unique skyline shot from r/Columbus. You can see a lot of the recent and ongoing infill developments around downtown. You can also see the newer Children's hospital buildings to the left and you can see the Short North and campus off in the distance to the right. I'm not sure I've seen too many pictures from this vantage point, so I think it's pretty cool.
October 29, 20195 yr ^^ That pic would look so much better with a substantial highrise on the corner of State and Third. Just sayin' and great pic.
November 4, 20195 yr Some photos from atop the Canopy Hotel and the National Vets Memorial, respectively, from this past weekend.

November 12, 20195 yr Kinda weird seeing snow on the ground while the trees still have their autumn leaves...
November 18, 20195 yr An interesting angle of our lovely city: https://old.reddit.com/r/Columbus/comments/dy64n5/here_is_my_take_on_the_pictures_of_columbus/
December 6, 20195 yr Everyone should follow Andy Spessard on Twitter. His pictures are amazing. This was his capture of the incredible sunset last night. And here was the sunset from two nights ago.

I believe the lot in the center right foreground (near that new red building) is slated to be torn up soon.
December 26, 20195 yr This is from about a week ago - when there was snow falling - but its a beautiful image of the elegant Schiller Park in German Village at night. Larger image at https://www.reddit.com/r/Columbus/comments/eb9fz2/schiller_park_around_10pm/
December 26, 20195 yr Another night-time image of Columbus. This one after the snow melted just before Christmas. The LeVeque Tower and City Hall are lit up in Christmas colors. But if you go to the larger image on reddit and zoom in over the new Vets Memorial, you'll be impressed with the cornice lighting of the renovated Atlas Building at Long & High: Larger image at https://www.reddit.com/r/Columbus/comments/eewn7u/warm_winter_skyline/
December 27, 20195 yr ^ Ground level version from a slightly different angle of the above skyline photo. LeVeque, AEP HQ, Nationwide HQ and Three Nationwide Plaza towers all adorned with Christmas colors.
