April 30, 20214 yr Author New Menards off state Route 18 gets go-ahead as part of Granger Township retail site Jim Mackinnon Akron Beacon Journal Menards got the go-ahead from Granger Township. The family-owned, Wisconsin-based home improvement chain now has permission to build a Menards store that will anchor a new large retail development off state Route 18 at the Medina and Summit county line. April 30, 20214 yr This is a shame. I'm pretty sure there aren't ready to build lots, and probably not lots the size that Menards needs, but its hard to justify further expansion down RT18 when there are stores sitting empty in Montrose. Just more needless sprawl.

I still don't think that would be the correct size or roof height for a Menards.
May 4, 20214 yr This is more me lamenting RT18 becoming shopping plazas from I-71 to I-77 than anything else. I grew in Granger not far off of RT18 and would rather have the corn fields than the parking lots. The old Toy's R Us is still sitting empty if I'm not mistaken, but that wouldn't be large enough either. To your point, I can't really think of prime spot in Montrose for them to build. Though, the old K-Mart in Medina off Pearl could have been a better location/building in an already developed area. Only competing with Home Depot there instead of Lowes and Home Depot in Montrose.

September 20, 2024Sep 20 The Medina County Park district is relatively young and small, but under its current leadership it has been aggressively growing. This would be the fourth park or wildlife sanctuary for the district in Granger Township. This also seems to be a very strategic addition to prevent further sub-development of what is now farm fields and act as a buffer from the inevitable storm water runoff from the impervious surfaces created from the Menard's development. Granger Township is bound by Rt 18 to the south, Ledge to the north, Medina Line to the east, and Windfall to the west. The current parks in Granger Township are (1) Allardale (502 acres) and (4) Carolyn Ludwig Mugrage Park (102 Acres); the wildlife sanctuary is (25) Granger Wetlands (163 acres). Once all the parcels are acquired, this would be the second largest park in Granger Township at 194 acres. I'm not exactly certain which properties will be acquired, but Menard's is planned for the north-west corner of Medina Line and Rt 18, I assume the fields behind this development are what will be acquired.
