I know that personally, I rarely-to-never go to Steelyard. Same with Friends. But regardless you're right. I think that a small format big box store could work in Cleveland, especially near one of the busiest intersections. The issue with Steelyard and downtown residents is that those without a car its not the most accessible. The #81 ... is a journey. There's uber/lyft or a ZipCar (I use the latter when I do head down there). Pending weather its not a terrible bike ride. However, I do most of my shopping online. I'm not sure if we can draw in national retail yet, and local retail can be risky starting a new business - especially in really expensive spaces. As a student I know that there is some missing retail needs that many campuses have, and this is pretty close to CSU. However, I'm not sure if theres enough students living close to campus yet. 

Yes, I hate it when they cut off what was always a public corridor in a building downtown - National City, Ohio Savings, etc.

I had an office in the Huntington Building and had my shirts made at Joseph Scarfidi for years.  Even when I had an office in buildings quite a distance from the Huntington I would always take time off during the day and go back and have my shoes shine in that great old shoe shine stand.  I always remembered how easy it was to catch a cab in front of the building back in the day since there were always 3-4 taxis lined up in front on Euclid due to all the law and accounting firms in the building.

I hope you still give Joseph Scafidi some business, in his current location.

i can't wait for this project to get started. i think they have to start construction by sometime this summer or the tax credits are in jeopardy.

didn't the Athletic Club and Euclid Grand both get tax credit extensions? seems like there's always a way to get around deadlines.

My 1920s-style dining room chandelier, and "electrolier," is said to be from Guvnor's Pub, that had an entrance off East Ninth and probably from the lower level also.  I had been several other restaurants previously.  Can anyone supply any photos of that space?

Regarding the construction that's finally going on with the five buildings just to the east of 925, does anyone know if this is finally the latest project proposed there or just some kind of stabilization effort?  Thanks.

Cross posting  from the May Company thread where someone shared a link to Grunwell-Cashero's Facebook page.  This is the caption on their video about the 925 Buidling: "The largest commercial and restoration project ever in the history of Cleveland is starting later this year! This project will be over $200 million dollars and will include Class A office space, High end restaurants, Luxury condos, and Cleveland history museum!"  

 

First I have ever heard of a Cleveland History Museum?  This is an intriguing idea.

^Are you referring to the Western Reserve Historical Society.  If yes, I cannot see it.  They just spent a huge sum of $$ renovating their building the past few years.

Yes.  But they've also recently done some major rebranding to be called the "Cleveland History Center"....maybe my question should be instead, "I wonder if there will be a connection / extension of the Cleveland History Center in University Circle."

I seriously doubt that. This sounds like something new. Perhaps it will be connected to the WRHS but perhaps not. I think if done well it could be rather neat- and a nice way to open an amazing space to the public. I like that better than showcasing luxury cars.

First time I've seen I've seen the marketing info for The Centennial aka 925 Euclid...

I was there for a pre party yesterday before opening day. Very impressive what they are doing in that space! The rooftop will be like nothing Cleveland has right now. Resembles an NYC/Chicago vibe.

Side question -- is Jules Guerin the same artist who painted the murals in the Terminal Tower entrance?

Pretty much. There's very few abandoned buildings left downtown. The rest are all small.

I'm very behin the 8 ball on this one.  Is it currently under-construction/renovation?  When is the estimated completion date?

Construction hasn't started yet. It's planned to start later this year and won't be completed until summer 2023.

I see the PERFECT space for a City Target...Combine either the first and second floor retail spaces along E 9th/Euclid perimeter or the basement and first floor retail spaces and you have the perfect square footage and prominent location. If anyone from Millenia lurks on this board, please oh please make it happen.

But we're all going to be so old then. 

There is a cool tour of the lobby if you've never been inside the building (like me). This building should be a showpiece downtown when it's completed. I hope it actually starts this year.

I feel lucky to have worked for almost a year in this amazing building. One thing I’m intrigued about is how they plan on making retail more visible. Most people seemingly had no idea about the array businesses that existed hidden away inside.

I can remember going into this lobby when I was younger.  It's breathtaking.

 

I hope they do not touch the lobby.  

 

There is great retail to be had along East 9th and Chester.  Lets hope they make the most of it.  This would be the perfect place for unique and national retail

Considering that this building is being financed in part by historic tax credits (including a catalytic credit), expect its public spaces to look as similar to their original design as possible.

I hope this is true.  This building is unique gem that needs to be treated with the respect.

the 105,000 + day time workers, 17,000 CSU students, and our growing tourist population. E. 9th and Euclid is literally the perfect place for an urban format target. This was my first thought when I saw the plans. I really hope they consider pursuing target as a client.

Good stuff!!  I signed the petition.

A Target would look great in this location... But sadly most CityTarget's contain at least 80,000 square feet of retail space. The Centennial project only has 40,000 square feet of retail, so trying to squeeze a Target in there would be pretty difficult.

Are you sure about that 80,000 square foot number for a City Target.  That sounds like way too much.

There's a small-format Target in Evanston, IL that I regularly visit.  It's 27,400 Sq Ft.:

 

"At 27,400 square feet, “this is an ‘extra-large’ small-format store,” according to Krysanna Bowery, store team leader, "with a smaller assortment of the same types of items available in the larger Target stores . Target has a total of 62 small-format stores across the country, Bowery adds, with a goal of 130 by the end of 2019."

Just did a quick google search and City Targets are between 12,000 and 80,000 square feet so I guess there are some that large but it looks like many are much smaller so it is a possibility.  Agree it would be a super location.

I think Target has been opening more smaller stores in the last few years. From a quick search, I saw that 80K number in an article from 2011.

I like what they done to the portion of the Sheraton Lobby - in real life - what is shown on their website doesn't give a complete picture.  It's deceiving. 

 

I'm not sure if and how they can work with a majestic space like the Huntington Building.  All their project were new builds.  Not restorations or historic preservation.  The eventi is another example.  It's initial design was like something out of Star Wars and was amazing, for that space.
