Posted September 30, 201410 yr A few photos I took of two small towns in Southeast Missouri back in 2012 when I lived in that state. First is Doniphan, the county seat of Ripley County. The city has a population of 1,997. The county population is 14,100. September 30, 201410 yr The Ripley County Courthouse looks like an old schoolhouse. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 1, 201410 yr Looks like there is less architectural ornamentation in these towns than what is typical of small town Ohio.
October 2, 201410 yr Looks like there is less architectural ornamentation in these towns than what is typical of small town Ohio. This area is in the Ozarks, so I don't think there was ever really a time when they had a lot of wealth.
October 2, 201410 yr Nice set. Can't wait until you hit all 88 of Ohio's county seats. Thanks! I'm a little over a third there.
October 2, 201410 yr this is very interesting to see. they look pretty good. i don't see any abandonment, except for that cool looking old gas station. hopefully somebody makes an antique shop or taco shop out of it or something and saves it.
October 11, 201410 yr Is the vibe in these Ozark towns Appalachia+cowboys or is it quite different? Well I never spent too much time in any but they are rural, low population communities that don't have a lot of money in them. I don't know if the region is as poor as Appalachia though.
