Posted October 1, 201410 yr I recently learned that the west side neighborhoods of cleveland were once incorporated as West Cleveland, a village of some 6000 people when it was annexed to the city of cleveland. I haven't been able to find much of the history of the city. Are there any good resources that UOers know of? And specifically, did the city or village have a flag?
October 1, 201410 yr West Cleveland: http://clevelandhistorical.org/items/show/214 EDIT: I can't find any info on a flag. There is a retired postal worker who lives in Brooklyn Centre who knows a lot of about the history of that area. I don't remember his name, but I interviewed him for an article I wrote in Sun Newspapers in 2008 about a tiny mid-19th century house on Denison Avenue that was to be demolished. Councilman Brian Cummins introduced me to this man. Brian might also have some information about West Cleveland. EDIT2: the historian is Craig Bobby. You may also be interested in West Park village and Rockport township. Rockport first spawned Lakewood. Cleveland annexed numerous villages and cities before the Great Depression. West Park and Rockport were the last ones. Here is some history.... http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohcuyah3/rockport.html There is also a very good, illustrated book on this history, called from Rockport to West Park, by Ralph Pfingston http://www.amazon.com/From-Rockport-Westpark-Ralph-Pfingsten/dp/0975961802 "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
