October 6, 201410 yr My furnace is not working and I was hoping someone on UO had recommendations on a reputable HVAC company that could remedy the situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Try Air-Rite on West 117th. http://www.airrite-supply.com/index.php/contact-us They know their stuff and have decent prices. They even installed my new HVAC last April. Oh, and they're in an old Studebaker car dealership. How cool is that? Also, I rarely use my furnace as I have a panel heater in my bedroom: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Econo-Heat-400-Watt-Wall-Panel-Convection-Heater-603/202882716 And I have a cove heater in each of my two largest rooms -- office and living room: http://www.radiantsystemsinc.com/ http://www.infraredheaters.com/cove.html (this is what I have) I only use my furnace when it drops into the 20s and lower. I installed these 10 years ago and I cut my nat gas costs and even my electrical costs have seen a net decrease since the furnace's fan motor is the most electricity-intensive. And since there's no moving parts, they wear out much more slowly. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
October 6, 201410 yr Thanks, KJP. I live in an apartment so not sure I can install those things. My former roommate owned the space heaters and took them when she moved out and I haven't bought a new one yet. Wanted to turn the heat on since it got so cold this weekend, which is when we discovered the issue with the furnace. My landlord is out of state right now and his maintenance guy couldn't fix it, so he asked me to look into companies for him. Thanks again for the recommendation.
October 6, 201410 yr A few years ago I found Sal's heating and cooling through living social and they've been wonderful. Reasonable prices, responsive and knowledgeable. I use them to service my furnaces this time every year. They're also having their fall living social sale, if that helps you.
