Hi gang,

Anybody have recommendations for a car mechanic they trust in the Cleveland area? West side preferably. I need to have the wife's Civic looked at. Looking for suggestions for somebody they trust who knows what they are doing. Dealership is usually too expensive.

Don't know how far west you want, but we usually go to Olmsted Auto, Exit 3 on 480 at the corner of Stearns and Cook. They've worked on all four of our family's Civics and we've had no complaints with their work.

I've had some good experiences at Bruce's on Detroit at Bunts in Lakewood

If you're willing to go as far west as Vermilion, let me know. A friend of mine takes his car to a guy out there.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Vermilion might be too far. The car is in Westlake at the moment. The shop in Lakewood is probably my best bet. No decent public transportation back to Westlake from Olmsted township.

If you're willing to cross the county line to Avon, I have used Ray's Auto and Truck at the I-90/OH-611 exit for years.  Ray and his son have always been honest with me, even told me I didn't need new brakes when I thought I did.

Plain Brothers off of W 117 does good work.

I've always had pretty good experiences at most of the Conrad's locations, and there is one in Westlake. The plus is, their Goodyear credit card, allows you to put repairs over I think $500 on a 6 months same as cash payment plan. I've paid off a lot of repairs that way.

Not west side, but for those who might find this thread later due to the generic topic and want to know, I would have a few recommendations on the east side.  Two would be the shops owned by the Weeks brothers.  Both were head mechanics at Motorcars Toyota/Honda in Cleveland Heights before breaking off to open their own shop, Alternative Car Care Solutions on Mayfield Rd.  A year or two ago, one of the brothers decided to set up his own shop, Weeks Automotive, on Warrensville.  The other recommendation would be Exceleration Inc on SOM Center Road in Mayfield Village.  All three shops specialize in foreign cars.  The first two really have a focus on Hondas and Toyotas.  The last works on just about any foreign vehicle.  None of them are the cheapest mechanics, but they are less than the dealership, and just like about anything in life, you get what you pay for.
