A few more details from CBF’s write-up. I don’t think this information was published before:

- “There will be a sculpture garden in between those historic buildings and this project, which would be visible from High Street, but only accessed through the art gallery next door, said Chris Meyers, principal at Meyers + Associates.“

- The fourth floor will feature office space.

- Plans also include a rooftop dog park.

The sidewalk in front of the historic Madison's & White-Haines buildings has started to reopen now that the storefronts are complete. A couple photos of 100 N High as well, including from Pearl on

  • I took a walk around the project this morning. Crews were removing barriers on High St and pedestrians will be able to use the entire sidewalk. There looks to be protective scaffolding along the 15 st

Controversial opinion, but I sorta wish the portion of the building that meets the Atrium building was lowered to the same height as the Atrium, with just that central portion (with the rooftop pool) as the highest portion (it could be made taller to make up for the shorter northern portion -- make it 20 stories or so). I think that would resolve the massing of the block in a nicer way (and give the Atrium residents slightly less to complain about).

And I'll continue to despise the fake connector building to the south that is too short and awkward -- it should also grow in height to match the Madison building to the south or just be eliminated altogether...

Saw this on the Columbus Reddit page. How do we get Edwards to get this idea done? They would just have to do gay st between 3rd and high.

I've seen this done places and experienced the results.  A lot of the concerns prior to the change was from businesses worried about potential loss of traffic.  In the end, though, the opposite happened because pedestrian traffic increased substantially and businesses did even better than they had previously.  Of course, what I experienced was not in the US and didn't quite have the same auto-centric obsession.

Good news for the 15 story building. Looks to be back for the commission meeting this month. It didn’t change in height and got some minor upgrades, adding a bit more to the design.

A couple engineering apps have been filed with the city over the past couple days for this project.

So much of that stretch is hotel and retail(that caters to downtown workers)so I don't think that parking would really be an issue in this case. I think if there is one small stretch of roadway downtown that could be converted this is it.

Work is full steam ahead on the rehab of the White-Haines and Madison buildings. How long were these vacant? Smelled musty AF walking past them.

Via CU's December Construction Roundup, scaffolding is down a the Madison and Whites-Haines. We can see the original fenestration and new brick in place where the giant department store facade once covered. This has been a slow process but very satisfying to see it still moving along. Almost makes up for the lazy monstrosity across the street...

And work should begin any day now on the neighboring 15 story tower. Building permits have been issued, fencing has been extended to cover the entirety of the site, and a few baby trees have been chopped  down. Some equipment and survey crews were on site today.

We could potentially have multiple downtown at once! One for this, the Merchant Building, the Scioto Peninsula, and the Broad St tower. Maybe even the United Way redevelopment, although I imagine that start is still a ways off…

That would be great! The Short North and Campus have dominated the tower crane scene in Columbus for far too long haha

These buildings are going to look amazing redeveloped and I’m glad they are being saved.

This is going to look so good and help the streetscape so much when the renovations are done and the new building is filling in that big gap.

I believe this would be the location of Dalton’s (owner of Veritas and Speck) potential French restaurant too, so something is already potentially lined up to continue to make the area more lively

I totally missed that proposal actually being approved -- and now we're already moving into construction?! Amazing!

Work has now started on the 15 story infill. Urbanist Columbus shared this on their instagram today.

So this is confirmed to be 15-stories? I saw in a CBF or Dispatch construction roundup article this project being referenced as 12-stories or something like that. I assumed it was a mistake, but I couldn't remember if something had changed.

Yeah I remember there was some confusion in the initial reporting, probably bc of the underground parking. But the plan set approved by the city has nine floors of residential above eight floors of parking, two of those parking levels underground.

I like this pic posted to the Urbanist story as well. The fog in the background makes it look really ominous.

Ok, yea I remember the initial confusion around the height. The article I mentioned was within the last week or two, but I'm sure the author was referencing one of the inaccurate articles from the initial news.

The Urbanist on Instagram: “Work has begun on this new 15-story infill building on High Street, Downtown. Will include 152 apartments, structured parking and retail.…”

So did I! After so many delays and fits and starts on this section of High St., I wasn't going to say anything until it could be verified that construction was actually happening. And here we are! Really happy to have this project become a reality. It will do so much for this long-neglected portion of downtown as far as refilling the streetscape, adding some height and, hopefully, adding much needed activity to the area.

My Sim City hope is that he’ll put some version of Harmony on the site where Main Bar once stood. But I’m not holding my breath lol

But I am still stoked over the amount of construction that will/should be ongoing during 2023.

I'm glad to see they are keeping/re-creating the unique curved entry to the White Haines building!

I had been worried that would be eliminated in the renovation because although old enough to be historic, I do not believe it's original to the building

Luckily, pretty sure if they are getting historic tax credits, they have to keep the building basically exactly as is.

I think the connect realty building at long and 4th ran into some trouble because they took out a window that wasn’t meant to be taken out. Not sure what happened, because it now appears they have taken them all out to be replaced.

When will the day arrive when we can get a sidewalk shed to keep the sidewalk open? Instead we get a chain link fence to make you cross the street.

Not enough people walking downtown to justify it probably

You don't have to cross the street because they have traffic shifted over a lane, so pedestrians have a dedicated path

Unless you meant in the alley? In which case I don't see an issue with leaving the opposite side sidewalk open instead

Yeah it’s actually kinda nice having a little protected pedestrian path. And the alley is closed to vehicles, so no issue back there either.

Sorry that I didn’t snag pics but the foundation for this seems to be complete as there is a drill on site for the pilings. The existing buildings seem to be completely demoed on the inside as well or getting close to it.

Most bus stops have a small sign in the ground, that isn't enough shelter for you?! People in this dang city are impossible to please!

Less than 15 years ago, some Cincinnati bus stops were signed merely with a stripe on a light pole.
