I think Blitzer's investment in Canton is a great way to increase his local involvement. And as @Dougalsaid it's a nice practice session for the real investment in Cleveland.

Hall of Fame Resort delays waterpark, hotel openings until 2025

Hall of Fame Resort & Entertainment Co. is delaying the opening of its indoor waterpark and hotel in Canton, Ohio, until 2025, mostly because of construction financing challenges.

But the football-themed resort, gaming and media company already has a plan to leverage the brand of the nonprofit Pro Football Hall of Fame — around which the for-profit Hall of Fame Resort is building its resort assets — with smaller, off-site assets, such as restaurants.

Meanwhile, Hall of Fame Resort has settled its dispute with one-time naming sponsor Johnson Controls, recording a $4.1 million gain in the fourth quarter, the company's executives said Thursday during a conference call with securities analysts.

More contractor / sub-contractor non-payment issues. Been an albatross since the begging of development unfortunately.

Hall of Fame Resort lands nearly $10 million in debt to help complete waterpark

Hall of Fame Resort & Entertainment Co. has landed nearly $10 million in energy-related debt from Constellation, the largest U.S. producer of nuclear-, hydro-, wind- and solar-generated energy, to help finish building the indoor waterpark at its Canton, Ohio, resort.

Hall of Fame Resort said Monday it plans to use the $9.9 million in debt from Constellation's Efficiency Made Easy (EME) program to put in place energy efficiency measures that help finance the construction of the company's Gameday Bay Waterpark at its 100-acre resort property in Canton, which is called Hall of Fame Village.

Constellation has used its EME program on two other occasions to help the resort company free up cash for building projects and reduce its energy consumption, "creating a more sustainable footprint to advance energy efficiency throughout the resort," Hall of Fame Resort said.

I’ve lost track of how much debt has piled up on this project. Where is the revenue coming from to cover all of it? I don’t see how this thing ends well. Will probably end up with the NFL buying it up for pennies in bankruptcy court.

We have been casually but eagerly following the development news of the NFL Hall of Fame Village (or whatever the current branding is) - the brithplace of football - for a very long time and it seems sad it never seems to get done and or the plans keep scaling backward.  Why can't the greedy NFL owners each contribute and build a state of the art development there rather than or at least equivalent to the billions each contributed to the surroundfing SoFi stadium development for the NFLs clubby West Coast HQ.  Canton should be proud of what they have accomplished on their own but they shouldn't have to go it alone and beg for donations.  The Hall of Fame should also have an NFL-built and funded dome modern stadium where maybe even the Super Bowl could be played from time to time - like the Rock Hall induction ceremonies in Cleveland. If the perceived grifter Haslam would take the lead on this type of worthy effort maybe he could garner some much need positive PR.

Hall of Fame Resort reveals reasons behind proposed buyout

Hall of Fame Resort & Entertainment Inc. has revealed some of the reasons why the Canton, Ohio-based company agreed last week to be acquired by an affiliate of its largest shareholder and director — Stuart Lichter, founder and president of Industrial Realty Group LLC in Los Angeles.

The acquisition by a Lichter-affiliated investment vehicle, HOFV Holdings LLC, has several conditions and would take Hall of Fame Resort private.

HOFV Holdings has agreed to convert each common share that Lichter and his affiliates do not own into a right to receive 90 cents. Based on recent regulatory filings, that would amount to a payment of about $4.7 million.

The timing of the going-private deal has not been announced.

I've visited last weekend for a youth LAX tournament and it was a reminder of how this is a terrible development. There were probably 2,000 people at the playing fields last Friday yet the restaurants were totally dead.

  • The retail is tucked away from the street and has zero visibility. My guess is most of the visitors had no idea there were restaurants onsite.

  • Probably half the retail space is vacant

  • The development feels disjointed with a massive parking lot in the middle. It's a 10-15 minute walk from the playing fields which is a big deal when you have short breaks between games. It's also hard to reach for museum visitors

  • The water park under construction appears very small and no visible progress on a hotel

Until the full master plan is realized it will feel disjointed. The retail strip is a connector from the hotel and water park to the hall of fame and sports fields.
15 minute walk is an issue? Welcome to Ohio thought mentality.

When you have 30 minutes between games with a child, yes a 15 minute walk is a problem. It will always feel disjointed with a high school and parking lot in the middle of the development

I guess I'm not sure how else it could have been all been done with the land allocation and existing elements. The retail is not there to strictly support the sports fields. They are not used nearly enough.
