Posted December 12, 201410 yr Looks like WEBN might be doomed: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2014/12/11/big-changes-coming-to-webn.html?page=2
December 12, 201410 yr What percentage of the content on WEBN recently was 2005ish nu-rock and nu-metal? About a year ago we went down to Dry Ridge to buy a 1985 Mercury Capri (the other Fox pony car) to build for the ChumpCar series. The sellers showed us their vintage WEBN stickers -- some were never used.
December 12, 201410 yr WEBN went WAY downhill over the past 3 years after they fired all of the longtime staff and started playing all kinds of late-90s rubbish. I was raised on this channel. I was born when my parents were in college so they listened to it wherever we went and it was often played at parties. The channel sort of stopped evolving between 1995 and 2010. There wasn't much new material and the playlist was still heavy on the Rolling Stones, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Metallica, and Van Halen. They were big on the Black Crowes when they hit and they played Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains but never played Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Smashing Pumpkins, or any "college music" like REM or The Breeders. Around 2011 they fired everybody and the format changed. Suddenly Rage Against the Machine, Cyprus Hill, and The Beastie Boys were on heavy rotation. Some of those old DJ's were great like Wildman Walker.
December 12, 201410 yr I never liked WEBN. I only ever listened to it when the hills were blocking the WOXY signal from Oxford. Then after WOXY went off the air, I discovered a station done by Lakota high school students which was pretty good. Can't remember the call numbers. I wonder if it's still around and/or still any good. WAIF is still good, as far as I know. Lots of talk on there, though.

And you can thank Mt. Rumpke for blocking WOXY's signal to the east side... maybe.
December 14, 201410 yr Someone commented on the Business Courier article saying that "100.7 & 106.3 are currently broadcasting fuzz". Which implies that the Cincinnati Project station is dead, and this new station will launch on WEBN-HD3 and likely 100.7 & 106.3 FM. In other words, WEBN is not going anywhere.

Couldn't believe it was high school kids putting together those playlists. Probably got cut when the West Chester folks refused to pass a school levy for the tenth time. Sad! If anyone wants a cool eclectic station to stream online, check out WFMU. Remind me of WOXY sometimes.

The webstream for The Project is still up and running, and their social media accounts are still active. So if there's still 'fuzz' on the FM side it's probably either signal repairs or someone fell asleep at the wheel. Venturing off-topic here: When it was still student-run WLHS modeled itself after WOXY. They also did a feature on the station for their school magazine - which was a pretty slick affair for a high school publication. Lakota decided a couple of years ago to end the station and leased the signal to WMKV-FM 89.3, owned by Maple Knoll Communities, this simulcasting that now.
