When it comes to the actual architecture, Cincys stadium just reminds me of the space ship, bubble look trend of alot of European stadiums of the past decade or so. Granted FCCs trumps what others have done, it's not that different than LAFC or Minnesota externally in my opinion, and looks like Red Bull Arena on the inside. Its impressive, for sure, but I like what we have better. Im not sure who's concourses or high end amenities are better, but I think our actual seating and stands and field is superior looking. Cincys feels very plain and open. Ours feels tighter, darker, and more intimate. When it comes to the exterior facades, I do wish we had something to rival that, even if it's not the same at all. I was hoping maybe there would be some way to make our angular mesh panels like shimmer or sparkle with light behind them. Something a little more discreet than what Cincy has but something that gives it a little pizazz. From someone else’s post, not sure if on here or another forum, the holes in the panel are designed to allow light out during night games to give it a certain look. No idea if it will be super noticeable or not, but it could look really cool.
April 1, 20214 yr Cincy's stadium just doesn't move the needle THAT way for me. I really really like the site and setting of the new Crew stadium. I love the sharp corners and clean look of it. I think what separates the two is that Astor Park and the AD have much brighter future in the final build out. In 5-10 years, Crew stadium could look even more amazing by its surrounding. Curious, does Cincinnati have a plan to build out the area around their stadium? Don't get me wrong, its a nice stadium and is great for Cincinnati and Ohio! I hope that keeps Cincinnati's slowly gaining population growth going!

Alright, I really don't think we need to continue discussing which stadium is better. It's eventually going to turn into an argument between Columbus people and Cincinnati people and nobody wants that. Also, the last sentence in bold kind of seems like a cheap shot at Cincinnati. Maybe it wasn't meant that way and was just poorly worded, but for whatever reasons this type of comment about population can usually set off quite the argument around these parts. Sorry, not trying to be negative toward you or anything, I can just sense that this thread could get ugly even though we've kept it pretty civil so far. I really don't want to see a giant argument break out and have the thread get locked.

Lot of effort put into value engineering on the Austin one. More of an effort to save money with minimal material use, but of course their weather is better than ours. Debatable :p Austin's stadium is automatically kinda gross because it's basically at their Easton equivalent. I've been to the Domain and it's......not where I'd want a stadium.

There is currently a garage under construction on the north western side of the stadium. On the northeast side is the current home of the ballet and tri state wholesalers. The ballet will be moving once their new building is complete (should be done by summer I believe) and tri state will be moving once their new building is complete (not sure when but it is under construction). The site around the stadium calls for two buildings on the northern side. The whole western side of the stadium are townhomes so those will not be redeveloped. The southern portion has a building which I’d assume FC cincinnati will renovate sometime as well as the Cincinnati police headquarters (assuming they have no plans on moving anytime soon).

April 1, 20214 yr The reality is both cities are completing 2 incredibly modern, world renowned stadiums packed with luxurious amenities. Each stadium was built to serve their respective unique locations and neighborhoods appropriately and I personally love both for different reasons!! I'm glad that they are both starkly different in design, having the same would be boring. It will be fun to watch the impact they both have with regards to future growth and events they provide. Outside of just soccer, I love that these stadiums are built with other events in mind, like concerts. Concerts in an open air arena setting are awesome, I attended a few at Ohio Stadium, however concerts there for me are not fun. It's about the user experience and setting, and a concert for 20-30k in a stadium that seats 110K roughly, just doesn't have the same feel or affect. Bigger is not always better with regards to that, again it's about the setting and experience for me, and I feel based on the 20k-25k seating, these locations will be awesome on gamedays and concerts!!! I'm hoping that for Cleveland as well. I'm as pro-Ohio as one can be! If you need any more proof, go look in my Newark threads lol. Anyway...really looking froward to seeing the build out of Astor Park.
April 1, 20214 yr Looks like seat installation is complete on the east side of the stadium and is over half way done on the west side of the stadium. Seats have also been fully installed on the south end of the stadium, although that is not visible on the construction cam.
April 2, 20214 yr Is there supposed to be a design in seat colors that I'm not seeing from this angle or is the random geometric pattern the design? Also, I was thinking you could probably do some cool projection mapping on the stadiums exterior. Not that a fancy light show is all that important to a stadium (even if it looks cool from a drone shot) , but I think it could help build the energy around the stadium. Something like that combined with the outdoor spaces in the southeast corner could make for a really neat first impression as you approach the stadium from under the railroad bridges.

I could totally be wrong or off though...

My understanding is that its an abstracted checkered flag. The specific pattern is part of their new brand and they're introducing all across their marketing and spaces. The new training center has the same pattern in the main lobby and also in some of the stadium interior renders. Edited April 2, 20214 yr by DevolsDance

April 6, 20214 yr Wow...does anybody know if something imminent is being planned for The Triangle and the area just across the RR Tracks that was recently cleared out? That piece of land should now be considered prime real estate! I don't care how funky the layout is, use some creativity and plan for something BIG there. That could be the center piece of the entire AD if they do it right. So interesting! When you look at it from these type of views, you realize just how much of the AD is left to be developed and how much potential there is! Edited April 6, 20214 yr by OhioFinest

It can all even be connected to The Reach and White Castle HQ under 670.

April 12, 20214 yr WOW....this thing is hitting the final stretches. In the very last picture, you can see how the roofing structure looks like it has a "see through" element that you cant see from the outside. This makes me really want to see some pictures when they finally test the lights at night. I have a feeling the best kept secret of this stadium is going to be the visual of the stadium when its light up at night. Lastly, i actually like the seating design. It has slowly grown on me and adds a cool element to the stadium. Just my opinion though. All in all, this stadium is really shaping up to be a true gem.

April 12, 20214 yr Crew, AEP sign new, multi-year partnership deal Mark Somerson - Columbus Business First - Apr. 12, 2021 "Columbus Crew SC officials announced a new, multi-year partnership with American Electric Power that will put the energy company's name on a gate at the new stadium going up Downtown. ... The Crew said nearly 80% of fans will pass through the southeast gate that will bear AEP's name. ... Last week, the Crew announced another 'founding partner' in Vertiv, which will power the scoreboard and other digital signage inside the new stadium."
April 12, 20214 yr AEP could sponsor them by burying those transmission lines 🤣 I was drafting about that when the announcement came out. I believe the distribution lines were buried. it appears those are transmission lines substation to substation which are less commonly buried. Even in communities where distribution is buried, you may still see transmission lines as they are basically the freeways of power lines. Complexity of these lines specifically is navigating the railroads, 33, 315, river, 670, etc. A mini sub would be needed where they enter and leave. There is one on the south if the old power plant so that's good and then one can probably go by the big dig tunnel entrance. Then it becomes a cost benefit analysis issue and I dont see anyone coming out ahead on that for a few blocks of Aesthetic pleasure. Big transmission lines like that are also less likely to go down in storms etc and they clear trees so even the reliability part of a cost benefit analysis is swayed toward the status quo unfortunately.

April 12, 20214 yr Rogue wants the naming rights to their own arena before they pay that kind of money for the Crew lol. *stupid parking requirement* But I agree. ROGUE Stadium with that aestetic would be a decent match. My guess, but not bet, would be that if we are having trouble obtaining the naming rights this far, it might be another name outside our normal realm like Mapfre was. Or they have the naming rights secure but want it to be a big show when the stadium is 99% complete.
April 12, 20214 yr 18 minutes ago, DTCL11 said: Or they have the naming rights secure but want it to be a big show when the stadium is 99% complete. I think they have naming rights already. They probably had a handshake deal before the Crew was ever "officially" saved. The team has been putting out regular news about new business partnerships and vendor partnerships for the stadium, so it seems that they are working their way up to announcing the naming rights of the stadium.
April 12, 20214 yr I don't think they've secured the naming rights yet. I know at least a couple months ago they were still courting companies. They're wanting big, major market money so I think only some of the largest Columbus businesses could/would do it. At least one big name balked at the price and said no.
April 12, 20214 yr Root Insurance would be a cool sponsor, even though it’s another insurance company, so it probably won’t happen.
