January 10, 20223 yr Here is a little piece from a dispatch article today. What pieces of land does nationwide own close to the stadium, and hopefully they come up with some great buildings, when it happens.

I believe one of the sites they’re referring to is the piece of vacant land on Spring near Parks Edge and North Bank condos. Last year, NRI said they wanted to build more condos there. Idk what the other one might be. Do they own the Triangle or the land with the two office buildings directly across from the LDC Field?

Nationwide owns 600 W Nationwide and the surface lot bounded by the RR tracks, Spring, Nationwide, and Hocking. I believe they plan to develop 600 W Nationwide in some form. In addition, as @amped91mentioned, they own the lot at the NE corner of Spring and Hannover, which is where they plan to build another North Bank Condo-esque tower.
January 25, 20223 yr The sign for the Municipal Light Plant went up today. This project should be awesome when it’s done.

January 26, 20223 yr I don't think anyone should get their hopes up regarding NRI's properties. They've consistently been conservative with their projects in terms of scale, height and design. Astor Park itself is arguably pretty conservative given it was basically a blank slate and could've really made a statement, especially with so much visibility from 315/670. NRI has built two 12-story towers and a 10-story in the last ~5 years. They’ve also openly stated their plans to build another tower like the North Bank condos. I’m not hoping or expecting anything earth shattering, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to expect something around 10 stories across from the stadium.

I think the low rise development in Astor park so far was deliberate. I would guess the owners of the Crew didn’t want to hide the $300 million+ stadium they just built. Don’t be surprised if the lot to the northeast gets filled in with decent height. The development already called for this.

With the visibility and location, the whole development could've been more along the style/heights of the Scioto Peninsula. Every developer has a few exceptions to their bread and butter, like LC's High Street buildings when they're generally known for standard suburban apartment complexes, and NRI has not generally been a "go big" developer. I know NRI has said they want to do something different for a few sites, and I hope they do, but I think by now everyone knows my views on sites not reaching their potential. I'm never going to be super happy with low rise Downtown outside of the historic districts along Town.

So this isn't necessarily an Astor Park webcam, but this WBNS weather cam just so happens to overlook the area. You can't make out a ton of detail, but it's better than nothing. https://www.weatherbug.com/weather-camera/?cam=WBNSS
March 17, 20223 yr Things have been moving quick as can be in this town! Projects going from approved to breaking ground in record time and things like this going from starting up construction to a ton of visible progress in just a few weeks time. Really cool to see companies motivated to get things moving ASAP.

I can't wait to see how frustrated people get trying to leave the stadium from this parking garage after a game. I know they talked about having shuttle busses to go from the stadium to the garage district around Front street. Is that still a thing? That way people would not really have to walk that far at all. Are the shuttles still a thing, anyone?.

People don't seem to mind the short walk down Nationwide Blvd. It's kind of turned into a unique part of the gameday experience. It's also not much more of a walk than walking to the back of the parking lot at the old stadium.

April 19, 20223 yr Just now, Toddguy said: Thanks. I think they should have something though...even if only a very limited type of service. They might have something for people with mobility issues. I'm not sure. The issue with having a shuttle service is, unless you have a large number of busses, like what they do for OSU basketball at the Schott, you end up waiting so long to get on the shuttle that it ends up taking far longer than just walking. I just don't think it's worth it. I'd rather walk a few blocks then cram into a hot bus with sweaty strangers just to ride four blocks at a speed slightly faster than the people walking outside.

I was really asking for the people with the mobility issues. Everyone else should be able to walk the short distance really. As long as those people have some kind of accommodation(like a drop off or something?) then it should be fine. A quarter mile walk for most people is not a big deal unless there is some kind of really God -awful weather and though we complain about ours, we rarely have that issue to any kind of extreme. *Many could use the exercise-it may be all some get lol.

Not to make this too personal but I really am wondering since I have become one of those people who has leg issues(genetic of course so nothing they can do)which makes standing/walking very much difficult and painful at times. Now if I could bring a bike and ride and park that, no problem. The problem is the weight/pressure on my feet, not on my significantly pandemic-increased butt lol. I imagine they have bike racks? I could lazily bike along with the crowd as they walked. I am actually planning to get my butt to a game. I want to go! Edited April 19, 20223 yr by Toddguy

Oh well everyone who went to that stadium had something to complain about haha. Hell, even people who just lived in the area had plenty to complain about. You ever not know there was a game/event going on and try and get on the highway east of the old stadium and have the road blocked off and traffic cops direct you to pull into the stadium parking lot? I have..... that was not very fun. Quick trip turned into me sitting in stadium traffic for 45 minutes then going home.
