November 1, 20195 yr Ginther is essentially running unopposed on Tuesday. I haven't heard much about the opposition who is this Jef Leppard guy that is write-in only.
November 1, 20195 yr ^^^Yep, it really sucks. He needed an opponent to push him on some issues, even if he was assured re-election. He really seems to truly be doing bare minimum and is rewarded for it. I miss Coleman : (

Ginther may only have this time, he isn't as favorable with a lot of business folks in the city like Coleman was, though he is a puppet so who knows! Coleman, despite his own issues, really knew how to play the game and was a great mayor for all IMO. Edited November 1, 20195 yr by wpcc88
November 1, 20195 yr $25.7M Columbus Crew stadium land deal closes Nationwide Realty Investors Ltd. said Friday afternoon that it has closed a deal to sell the Columbus Crew about 21 acres of land on West Nationwide Boulevard where the soccer team plans to build its new $300 million stadium. A Columbus Crew spokesman previously said the team’s ownership group would pay $25.7 million for the land. The Crew confirmed the closure of the sale. The purchase is officially between Nationwide Realty Investors affiliate NWD 500 Nationwide LLC and West End Development LLC, an affiliate of the Crew’s ownership group. That group includes Jimmy and Dee Haslam (the owners of the Cleveland Browns) and Columbus' Edwards family. November 4, 20195 yr Technically Short North, but its about the Stadium. The downtown Stadium Experience Center at 881 High, opening this December. "the Experience Center will serve as the place where you will be able to utilize the latest interactive technology to conceptualize the new stadium and its various seating options. Crew SC membership consultants will guide you through the seat selection process and answer any questions that you have along the way."
November 7, 20195 yr They changed the angle of the construction cam: It's pretty cool to see the recent mid-rise buildings that have gone up along High Street from here. The views from the stadium are going to be really cool no matter which way you look. I can't wait!

November 16, 20195 yr State funding for Crew stadium could increase as team seeks loan on top of planned $20M Columbus Crew SC has long included state money in its funding plan for the soccer team's new Arena District stadium, but a document obtained by Columbus Business First indicates the state contribution to the project could include a $13.4 million loan in addition to the previously budgeted $20 million. I wonder if the best option would be to somehow turn the triangle into public green space. Some sort of safety barriers would likely need to be built along the RR tracks, but I think it could be an interesting concept and likely easier than actually building something. I really just want it to be utilized in some fashion.
November 22, 20195 yr Columbus has plenty of underutilized parcels on major corridors that are much more important to develop than the forgotten triangle only known to us urban geeks that stare at aerial views.

November 22, 20195 yr It's not common knowledge, but the Convention Center is already designed to be a train station with very little additional work. Hop off the platform, walk a few feet and you're in the food court/mini-mall.

Hop off the platform, walk a few feet and you're in the food court/mini-mall. Yep. I think I mentioned it here at least once that the initial plans called for the CC to be south of the railroad tracks. It was going to include a hotel and event space together. A separate, but connected transit hub was planned on the northern side of the tracks in a revamped Union Station. When US was torn down by the city, the city lost funding to build the transit station because of the demolition, and the city built the CC in its place, instead. The idea of the transit hub was still incorporated into the design, but never built. And we still got the hotel on the south side of the tracks. Edited November 22, 20195 yr by jonoh81
December 3, 20195 yr Crew stadium update: Franklin County advances funding plan Franklin County’s piece of the public financing for Columbus Crew SC’s new $300 million Arena District stadium moved forward Tuesday. The Franklin County Board of Commissioners approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Confluence Community Authority, laying out its contribution to the project. That contribution will consist of annual payments of $2.5 million over 30 years to the newly created entity that will eventually own the stadium. Although those contributions will ultimately total $75 million, the county describes its contribution to the project as approximately $45 million, based on the size of the bond issuance those payments will allow. February 13, 20205 yr https://www.thisweeknews.com/news/20200213/email-ties-crew-stadium-land-to-nationwide-loan-restructuring Quote The negotiations for Nationwide’s 21 acres west of the Arena District went on for 11 months, finally concluding with a sale on the same day that the new economic development agreement settling the loan with Nationwide also was signed. An email last summer from Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther’s office urged the City Council to approve an unusual property tax deal worth up to $65 million to Nationwide Realty Investors because failing to do so could jeopardize buying land from the company that was needed for a new Downtown soccer stadium. Quote “Specifically, passage of the (agreement with Nationwide Realty Investors) now will allow the Crew to move forward with preliminary site prep currently planned to commence on August 1, 2019, and real site work and demolition currently planned to commence in early September,” Paul wrote. “Our belief is that NRI may not accommodate if they do not have passage of the (tax increment financing) changes with the city.” The email, first reported this week by public radio station WOSU, repeatedly ties the two agreements together, noting that “the acquisition of the stadium land” faced an Aug. 31, 2019, deadline, requiring that the property tax deal be approved quickly “so that we can start construction” of the soccer stadium. Very Stable Genius
February 13, 20205 yr On 9/20/2019 at 5:41 AM, DTCL11 said: Looks like NRI has some pretty tough demands on releasing the land if it still hasn't been inked. Hearing that the deal is 'close' for a couple months indicates that it's much more than a simple transaction of selling land in the effort to save the team and makes me believe they are looking for a long term financial benefit rather than a one time transaction. It harkens back to a brief reference in a thread of NRI holding land. NRI and Kaufman have an 'agreement to acquire' rather than 'purchase' or stating that Kaufman is buying the land as articles at the time reported for the non-NRI parcels. Could be semantics but the word choices seem pretty specific. The article also goes on to talk about the fact the city still has not transferred their land and won't until the final private land deal is signed. No one has stated the deal is in trouble but someone is definitely playing some hardball to squeeze out benefits. I'm just gonna leave this here from September....
February 21, 20205 yr Commission to Weigh in on New Downtown Park, Pedestrian Bridge The latest plans for a new pedestrian bridge and riverfront park near the new Crew stadium will be presented to the Downtown Commission next week. March 6, 20205 yr ^Hopefully it turns into a gold mine (for the Crew, the Arena District, and the city as a whole). ^^ That seems to be a high retaining wall being built around the stadium's periphery. Will it be partially sunken (e.g. Huntington Park)?
