further construction of the interior northern facade. I am concerned that the detail will look nothing like the renderings have proposed.

So we’re gonna just sit here and pretend that GSW doesn’t play in the 8th largest media market and the Cavs play in the 19th? We’re gonna sit here and pretend like the economics are the same in both m

  • Cool detailed shot of some of the panels at RMF. Also most of the side walk is in along Huron.

While I am ok with the corporate renaming of venues I am perplexed why they felt the need to change it from an Arena to a FieldHouse.

These cannot be compared. The rendering is at dusk when the facade is backlit. In daylight in the second pic the windows reflect the exterior surroundings.

What is that interior facade material? Is that wood or metal?

Like the Beacon those panels are covered with a film that will be removed.

I was hoping that they would be a little you know... thinner? Also where'd the folding go? Are they going to actually cascade these pieces or are they gonna try to use different hues to make the perception of folding?

Lol that was the lamest 'sneak peek' ever, woo clickbait Fox8. Lets show them renderings, and the interior that the public already sees daily and boom we got ourselves something people will click on!

Yeah really.. although I will say it gave a little perspective on the scale of the atrium.

Cleveland.com's facebook page has a couple of better walkthrough videos of the interior work being done. https://www.facebook.com/clevelandcom  I am saddened to see that most of the "folding" detail has been removed from the curtain wall construction. It also was mentioned that the finish is now brushed aluminum rather than the golden brushed color.   It just doesn't feel very refined anymore

You can see the folding in person. The photo is not a great representation of what the final product will be.

I added some photos above from the interior tour and I don't see any dimensional folding on the curtain wall past the northeast entrance section. It appears flat. The spacing and panel sizes are odd to me

The golden brushed color / wood / folding panel feature was one of the best design elements of the proposal - damn shame to see this instead. I can only assume there was some last minute horse-trading around construction costs in order to finalize the financing deal between the Cavs/public.

^Is that the finished product? It looks like there is still a covering on it. Much like the panels on the face of the Beacon tower, they want to protect the finishes as long as possible.

Edited by Mov2Ohio

Maybe It's just a moveable curtain, so they'll push them together to make them look folding, idk...

It's still covered to protect from construction.

Regarding the color of the panels. I think the rendering that we are familiar with that shows the panels appear to be gold, might be the way they will appear when they are illuminated by the LED lights which can be programmed to any color. Here is a not so clear screen grab from one of the videos that appears to show the panels as chrome which is how they are described in the video as their original color.

Except this is what was presented to The City Planning Commission and approved December of 2017.  Very different than what was rendered to sell the design.   I am ok with adjustments but not when it comes to the public financing the project.  Also, does anyone know  what Cliffs Cleveland and Sherwin Williams are paying for naming rights to the atrium entrances?  Will this money be used directly to lower the cost the City and County are paying or does this go directly into the pocket of Dan Gilbert?

^Yeah that's definitely not brushed aluminum. Guess we will have to wait and see when they are uncovered

I realized why I am struggling with the adjusted design of the  curtain wall panels. They are too similar in to the design of The Global Center for Health Innovation's exterior panels.

How about “Cleveland: Gund Arena Quicken Loans Arena Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse”?

Looks kind of narrow and cramped. There will be a lot more people than this photo indicates.

After seeing this it was starting to look outdated. Looking great!

It appears that the protective film has been removed off of the northeast section of the interior curtain wall.  I still feel it is very different than the proposed renderings look and feel

FWIW, I went to the 'Fieldhouse' construction camera site (https://www.theqtransformation.com/)

and my browser refused to load it, said it was an attack site.  It's has always loaded reliably in the past.

They've also started taking down the jersey barriers on Huron (or at least they were yesterday when I drove by..)

the rocket signage is atrocious. what a dumb name. it looks like its for the type of cheap, shady mortgage company that is angling to screw you out of a house. even a little eye catching rocket logo up there or something would help. i know, houston rockets, but just something better designed. the rest of the rehab seems alright though.

Meh.   I was never a big fan of "The Q" and the Rocket isn't worse

Crossing the road feels dangerous again. I didn't realize how much that divider (and two less lanes) of traffic made it feel.

The Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse signage was installed along the new atrium. I remember they stated the "O" in Rocket was supposed to be a solid led circle that could change graphics as to what was going on inside.  The installation appears that this no longer will be happening.

This building will have an entirely different vibe as night approaches and the glass wall dissolves away leaving the curved panels of the atrium front and center.

So we're getting 4 towers instead of 2 then?

Love the reflection of the city -great shot, great look.

Not sure how to classify this. It's somewhere between a renovation and a new building altogether.

Cleveland-Cliffs with a sponsored entrance?

That’s a new use of marketing dollars for them...cool!

That was hard to read, Does the Scene actually write positive or unbiased pieces ever?  I used to love reading the Scene, now i avoid it like the plague.

Sam Allard is single handedly ruining it.  It's as if they took one of the cleveland.com all star commenters and hired them as a journalist.  He must be a hero to all those people.
