When did the LED screen totem get moved from it's northern atrium corner placement to the southern side ?  I never heard of this being moved until the photos were taken

I have to say I don't like the new signage at all. However or whatever the signs are mounted on make it look incredibly sloppy and hard to read.

MTS, They didn’t tear it down, The atrium was added and the rest of the Q was modernized.

This video was 20 seconds of internal construction and five minutes of commentary.  If you actually want a video preview, this is not it.  The commentary was still interesting, but this video was not what I was expecting.

 

It did mention a free ribbon cutting event that will be open to the public next Saturday.  Perhaps some of you would be interested in going and sharing pix and videos.

Cincinnati has 3 major league teams. NFL, MLB, MLS, they'll all be within walking distance once the West End stadium opens in 2021. No, the west end is not in the CBD, but it is just under one mile from PBS and located within the bowl touching OTR. 

Philly, while they are within walking distance to each other, are off in a desert.  I wouldnt consider this comparable.  There are no residents or guests within walking distance really

Pittsburgh counts.  I think it's metro population is just slightly larger than Cleveland's.  Metro-Detroit (4M) is twice the size of metro- Cleveland (2M).

Regardless, Cleveland still has 3 professional sports venues downtown, the RRHF, Playhouse Square, CMA (a world reknowned art museum), the Cleveland Orchestra (one of the best orchestras in the world) and CCF (one of the world's best Medical facilities).

 

Who can complain?

But the population within an hour's drive of downtown Cleveland is closer to Detroit's than it is to Pittsburgh's.

MLS isn’t a major sports league. It takes in 1/5 the revenue of ice hockey. It’s only the 9th largest soccer league by revenue, below the Japanese and Chinese leagues. 

But if you consider baseball, football and hockey, Pittsburgh is in.

If they were smart they would build a platform, with two Extra Large game controllers and an super sized old school sofa (think the Conners sofa) and encourage people to play PONG!  People could play against one another, Cavs and Indians or other local celebs.  Turn it into a tourney. 

 

That would be a lot of fun and add to an incredible experience.  LOL

MLS is a major sports league. Soccer is THE biggest sport on earth, and MLS is THE highest professional league in America. I also believe MLS has an extremely bright future which is backed up by so many billionaires from east to west now lining up to buy a team (including the owner of the Cleveland Browns) these folks are not stupid they would not drop 500+ million dollars on expansion fees and brand new stadiums if they thought the league wasn’t going to see significant growth over the next 5-10 years. To a RMFH standpoint, why in the hell did they say that they tore it down like it was completely new? That just makes me laugh so hysterically. Unless there's a new roof on the place you could probably say you tore the place down, but all bets aside I think the LED banner on the roof of the place is hideous and really serves no purpose unless you're in the air. Its like reverse Goodyear Blimp, but how many times a game do the cameras go for the flyby pano shot of cleveland? I would have liked for them to renovate the roof whether it was get rid of the LED banner or not, I would just like a repaint.

Yes they are concrete planters/seating which are disbursed in with the bollards so that it looks a little better then just a long row of bollards to protect the building.

Walking by yesterday, and sorry I did not snap a picture, but the circular LED panel inside the "O" was illuminated as a basketball, so yes they do/will change based on what event is going on.

I will say this....im not a fan of government helping out private enterprise in construction of stadiums, etc.  Private Enterprise in a capitalistic environment should be investing on their own and sinking and swimming on their own. However separating the two topics, the new arena really is impressive.  I went to Elton John the other night, the entire glass facade was illuminating in stunning rainbow colors, with a giant screen inside the facade indicating tonights event.  It was really sharp looking for the street.  The interior looks good as well.  I will be spending many nights at the new look facility in the coming years...it does do Cleveland very proud.

I think the city was hoping that the refurbished arena would act as a catalyst for the NuCLEus project. Very convenient for a basketball fan season ticket resident. Hope it pays off.

While I agree with you about the dangers of government malinvestment in the private sector, it’s the price to pay to maintain major pro sport city status. I’m okay with most of it. No one could argue against the Gateway projects immense impact in jump starting downtown’s revival. And also it’s role in attracting large events. RNC, multiple NCAA tournaments, NFL Draft, 2 MLB and 2 NBA All-Star games, also multiple NBA Finals, and 3 World Series runs. All events putting Cleveland in the National/Worldwide spotlight, all in a good way.
