Hey out there, I'm looking for people to tag along with so I can take pictures/video. I don't know anyone around here so I figured this was the best thing to do.

Welcome! Are you new the area, looking for an extra set of eyes to find subjects, or concerned about wandering into some areas alone to take pictures?

Yes, I'm new to the area. I'm hoping to find some people I can tag along with. I'm not picky about location, just wanting to get good pictures. I wouldn't be in the way or anything.

What sort of subjects are you most interested in? Architectural? Natural? Historical? Modern? People?

I haven't had a serious camera since I retired my Pentax, but I still like taking pictures. It's amazing what a good cell phone camera can do if you don't use the zoom feature much.

I hope MayDay[/member] will chime in too because he does have a serious camera and has a great eye for architecture. But I think I can help you with historical settings. This city has an amazing, if not turbulent history. And that's what makes it so interesting! Many of its greatest landmarks are still here and most are well kept.

History, Architectural, Nature.. Those are great. I'm drawn to old buildings and their History. Churches and cemeteries, too. It's mostly about age and decay to me. I have a lot of equipment and I'm new to this so I would be doing this as a learning journey and everything.  I'm aware that people are pretty set in their ways but if they were willing to help me out in learning the ins and outs with urbex that would be greatly appreciated. But like I said, I don't expect it. Thanks

Welcome to UrbanOhio - if you'd like suggestions for areas to check out, I can help with that and when the weather improves, we may try to organize a walking tour. If you mean 'urbex' as in exploring abandoned sites, that's not my cup of tea. I respect those who enjoy it and there are great images to be had, but it's not for me. You may want to reach out to Sherman Cahal[/member] and smith[/member] - Sherman isn't in northeast Ohio but he takes some great pics of abandoned buildings. For inspiration, check out http://instagram.com/amusemymuse/

I would love to do abandoned buildings, but nothing illegal. To be honest, anything to get me out there would work. After I get things down then I will go ahead and be picky. lol

Those images you shared are amazing.

How about we set up a photo day? Perhaps in a couple of weeks? The weather for the coming week looks cold and snowy, and I usually hibernate/work from home this time of year. So as we get closer to March things should start breaking -- weather-wise.

Welcome Michelle!  If you want to go into abandoned buildings, you will have to break the law.  Even the most vacant decaying building is technically private property, so you'd be trespassing.  I don't have anything that I have my eye on right now to check out, plus it's too cold right now.  I agree with MayDay[/member] that amusemymuse is a great follow on Instagram.  She absolutely kills it - and does terrifying things!  I'd recommend following igers_cleveland on Instagram too.  They organize meet ups to take pictures - nothing illegal, so no urban exploring as a group.

This sounds nice. But I'm also skeptical on meeting up with perfect strangers lol. (please take no offense). Just watching out for myself. Do you have a YouTube or something I can see? Thanks

Understood. I'm thinking of multiple people doing a photo day, perhaps organized here. But I wasn't aware that there already were photo meet-ups, so that would probably be the best way to go.

Nobody is stranger than KJP, I promise :)  Kidding. Welcome to the site. I have met many of the UO peeps in person and they are good and helpful people - I'm one of the few females on the board if that holds any salt.

if you are new to town, one thing I might suggest is to take the Healthline from downtown all the way to the E side. Having an UO person along, they could identify different buildings for you and such. There are so, so many beautiful buildings, particularly old churches, as you take that route, it's really an interesting ride and since you're on a bus, you can just look out the window. Maybe get an all day pass so you could get off and on as much as you want, taking it all the way E for starters and then back west?

Folks like KJP and Mayday are much better with things like this, but I wanted to weigh in with a personal endorsement of them, I've met them both and they're good guys who are just real nerds for urban stuff, like many of us on here. :)

Thanks RnR! I think.... :)

UrbanOhio giving eHarmony.com some competition!

Oh yeah, because wandering around ruins of buildings risking tetanus and arrest is SO romantic!

I don't believe this site is the greatest for meeting people who want to explore areas south of Memphis Ave. Ken (KJP) does a good job on updating threads about Old Brooklyn and Parma 'hoods but many others focus on areas north of Memphis on the West Side or just the East Side. More people on here chat about suburban Legacy Village than the actual Cleveland 'hood of Old Brooklyn. Maybe you can be the person to change that. Good luck!

You need an old brooklynder? Here I am!
