Posted March 1, 201510 yr Some pictures of the Butler County seat taken on two separate days last August. The first time with ColDayMan, the second on my own. I really only covered the central part of the city. March 1, 201510 yr Hamilton is really looking great these days. With the renaissance of their downtown in full swing and some great urban neighborhoods, Hamilton offers a great urban option for people in Butler County. It's definitely a nice change of pace from the typical Cin-Day sprawl that surrounds it, Middletown and Oxford excluded.
March 1, 201510 yr Great set! Thanks. I'm amazed at how many statues Hamilton has. I think you got 4 of them in this photo set. I've only ever driven through it, so thanks for the tour.
March 1, 201510 yr Hamilton is probably the best "small mid-sized" city in Ohio (talking the Middletown/Lorain/Elyria/Steubenville/Springfield/Mansfield range). You captured it well. Not even including what's at Pyramid Hill! Anyways, excellent set, Eridony. I've been watching the progress there from Oxford for a while now, and it's amazing what all is happening there. To put it in perspective, here's Ink's excellent threads from 2006: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=10975.0 Compare downtown of then to now. Amazing progress!
March 6, 201510 yr Great photo set, Eridony. If you ever go back to Butler County (Hamilton, Middletown, Oxford) let me know and I will give you a broader tour. You did a great job capturing much of the Hamilton's core, however. I have long been a champion for Hamilton, but the momentum seems to have really picked up in Downtown in the last few years, thanks to a new aggressive city manager, progressive city council, and the completion of the catalytic Mercantile Block project. Here's a sampling of the progress I can come up with off the top of my head: Completed Projects + Mercantile Lofts - historic rehab of three Italianate buildings into 32 market-rate (fully leased) apartments over retail and office space (~$10 million) + Journal-News - historic rehab of former newspaper headquarters into Butler Tech School for Arts (~$4 million) + Robinson Schwenn - continued rehab of Globe Opera House/Robinson Schween Dept. Store building for new office and retail tenants (~$2 million) + 254 High Street - removal of cladding, facade restoration, and first floor rehab of prominent corner building + RiversEdge Amphitheater - completion of amphitheater and park on former Mercy Hospital site at Great Miami River In Progress + Ringles Building - historic rehab of 7-story furniture store building into corporate headquarters for Community First Solutions (~$5 million) + Artspace Hamilton Lofts - historic rehab of Mehrum-Lindley Block into 42 affordable apartments for artists, part of national chain of similar projects by Artspace of Minneapolis ($11 million) + Elder Beerman - rehab of former department store into retail and office space, starting early April New Businesses + Community Design Alliance architecture firm (Mercantile Block) + Milikin & Fitton Law Firm (Mercantile Block) + Art Off Symmes (Mercantile Block) + Unsung Salvage & Design Company (Artspace) - opening Spring + Almond Sisters Bakery (Artspace) - opening Spring + Untitled Art Supply (Artspace) - opening Spring + Sara's House boutique (254 High) + Jackson's Market (Elder Beerman) - opening fall + Municipal Brewing microbrew (Hamilton Mill) - opening fall(?) + Pop Art Gallery - opening Spring + True West Coffee (Robinson Schwenn) + Lane Library Tech Center (Robinson Schwenn) + Liferay National Sales Office (Robinson Schween) + Butler Tech School for the Arts (Journal-News) + Miami Valley Dance Studio (Journal-News) Initiatives for Future + CORE Fund - $6 million fund meant to act like a "miniature 3CDC" has already acquired the former Dollar Bank, Joffe's Furniture, Elder Beermans (mentioned above), and 254 High (mentioned above) in order to stabilize and advance rehab of the buildings + Marcum Park - $3.5 million fully-funded central park to be constructed on larger block of former Mercy Hospital site + Historic District - downtown is being nominated to the National Register of Historic Places so that properties are eligible for historic preservation tax credits

March 24, 201510 yr The Rossville Historical District has some amazing homes in its residential area, centered around "D" street. Also the Highland Neighborhood near the Fort Hamilton Hospital is a great place to raise a family or go for a wallk. Ink did a good job summing up the progress made in this city. I expect great things coming out of the city in the near future. The brewery and grocer and huge IMO for downtown.
