Saturday (March 21) I took a tour of the new Scranton Road Towpath Trail with a guide from the Metroparks.  It was very interesting despite being 20 degrees colder than forecast with fog and wind... cant wait to return in the summer.  I don't go into the flats very often so seeing all the old abandon buildings was fascinating.  There is SO much potential.  I hope between the Towpath, the Lake Link trail, and the Canal Basin park, along with Rivergate and the new development on the East Bank that some of those old structures (many of which I never knew existed) will be saved.

One building that IS in use is one I never knew existed. This firehouse is home to the fireboat.

The bridge by the firehouse is no longer in use but it is too expensive/difficult to remove it.  A little scary to stand under the huge counterweights.

So awesome. Between the weather and the scenery, this thread is about as Clevelandy as it gets in my mind (and I mean that in a good way). I love love love this project. Can't believe how close we are to a completely off-street pedestrian/bike connection between Tremont and Downtown now.

As you hint in your intro, preventing demo in this area is super important. So much of the built environment of the Flats has been lost even in the last 20 years. In terms of preserving sense of place, holding on to these remaining industrial buildings is near the top of my preservation wish list.

That explains why the bridge is now lit up! Impressive - I need to see this next time.

Fantastic pictures. I'm excited to see what the Flats look like in 10, 20 years. It could became an amazing and unique area.

Thanks for the winter shots. But you will have to go back in the summer when all the wildflowers are in bloom. It is absolutely beautiful. The wildflowers stretch from just where the new Inner Belt Bridge is being constructed, to the firehouse on the river.I've been on this stretch many times already.

Nice fire station there.

Strap said it better than I could. Preserve the history!

The new I90 bridge looks better in real life than in the initial renders imho.

PSU? Portland State University???

Great thread!

Yep, one of my favorite spots in the city - can't wait until it warms up :-)
