April 2, 201510 yr They ran out of office space because they demolished most of it. But hey, time to build up! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 2, 201510 yr Glad some of Detroit is left today. And Hamtramck is a great, surviving example of what Detroit neighborhoods used to be like. I vaguely remember them. I wish I had paid more attention to Detroit the first time I was there in 1979 and again in 1981, right before all the auto plants started closing up and moving south or overseas and the crack epidemic hit. But I assumed that auto plants, steel mills, railroads, transit, buildings and people don't just disappear. April 2, 201510 yr That's not an "Asian coney island." It's Lafayette, obviously burnished with some asian window lettering for the filming. Directly to the left is American Coney Island.

April 3, 201510 yr This is a great photo set. Thanks! I've stayed in both the Renaissance Center and in the Park Shelton Condos (using airbnb). Last time I was there I stayed in Grosse Pointe Park and took a self-guiding tour of the Grosse Pointes. There is so much potential for Detroit's redevelopment. I think, ironically, one of Detroit's biggest assets are their wide streets. They built most of the city after the auto industry took off and now they have the opportunity for dedicated transit lanes and bike lanes without hurting the flow of traffic.
April 6, 201510 yr yeah what a fun thread -- a fantastic mix of old and new. and still includes the requisite ruin porn. hmm, what could be in a canada gift shop? jars of maple syrup? and the former bank chop suey shop. chop suey! gotta love it.
