Huber Heights approves contract for manager of $18M music center

Huber Heights has agreed to a deal for a manager of its new $18 million music center.

 

The city council voted 8-0 Monday night to approve a contract with Music Event Management Inc. to operate the Huber Heights Amphitheater, the 4,500-seat, $18 million centerpiece of its The Heights mixed use development. The 10-year contract with options to renew for another 15 years calls for the city to pay MEMI $80,650 through the end of 2014 and an annual management fee of $225,000 each year thereafter.

Downtown apartment conversion project gets new tax credits

 

A downtown apartment conversion project has landed more tax credits than it had received before, which could provide the impetus to get the project off the ground.

 

The Huffman Block building at 115 E. Third St., also known as the David Building, received $4.3 million in historic tax credits to rehabilitate it into 127 affordable apartment units.

$165 million project in Centerville to create 1,200 jobs

Oberer Companies’ retail development at Wilmington Pike and Feedwire Road in Centerville will have a major economic impact on the Dayton region.

 

With leasing activity high and more demand for space than the development can hold, Oberer is estimating the value of the total project to be $165 million, according to data shared exclusively with the Dayton Business Journal.

Part of the Crowell Collier building(s) to be demolished & word on the street sez 31-37 E high  is going to disappear. This is the building on the SW corner of High & Limestone. I believe it was the original location of the Wren store. On the first floor was a drug store with a lunch counter back in the 60s.

The only parts of the central downtown block to survive the past 50 years are the north block & part of the west block.

Too much to cover from the past few months, but long story short. The music center is ALMOST complete, the Goodsports center may never happen. GS has had legal issues in other cities, so this project is suspended for the time being.

 

22 Million dollars, so we're way over budget for the "Heights". I think the voters will fix these issues at the ballot box in November 2015 when council members are up for re-election.

New plan forming to redevelop Wright-Dunbar area

 

A new effort is in the works to redevelop the Wright-Dunbar area immediately west of downtown Dayton.

 

The city of Dayton, CityWide Development Corp. and Wright-Dunbar Inc. are collaborating to advance and improve the Wright-Dunbar neighborhood in west Dayton.

“Pocket neighborhood” a new concept for Springfield

New Springfield developments that are more walkable and social than ever. The idea is a welcome one to Tina Koumoutsos.

 

Koumoutsos, who is executive director of Neighborhood Housing Partnership said the idea is could lead to more development on the heels of a $7.9 million "pocket neighborhood" proposed in downtown, with 80 senior residential units.

Clark County plans major building renovation project

 

Clark County plans $5 million in bonds to pay for major renovations at several county buildings.

 

The county commission approved Wednesday the issuance of the 20-year, 5 percent bonds, in a move it hopes will help update some of its major properties. Chief among them will be just over $4 million in bonds planned for upgrades to the County Courthouse and the A.B. Graham Building and Springview Government Center.

Beavercreek considering options for new city hall

 

Beavercreek officials will discuss Monday night three potential options for major renovations to City Hall and its Police Station, or else moving them entirely to a new location.

 

The City Council will hear Monday night a facility analysis from the city's planning department with three possible options to update the two key city buildings. This following a preliminary analysis by Synergy Building Systems. The city hall houses about 30 employees while the police department employs about 50.

$30M college renovation project awarded $4.5M tax credit

Fundraising for the restoration of the historic Wittenberg Fieldhouse is moving forward, after the university was awarded $4.5 million in state tax credits today to aid in the $30.6 million project.

 

The tax credits will help offset the cost of the project, for which $17.1 million has already been raised.

One Oakwood condo project approved, other rejected

The city of Oakwood approved one proposed condo development and rejected another following a lengthy public hearing earlier this week.

 

The city council approved 4-0 The Pointe, a 32 unit complex consisting of two two-story buildings at the northwest corner of West Schantz and Far Hills avenues, said City Manager Norbert Klopsch.

A developer familiar to the Dayton market has a new plan for a major project at Cornerstone of Centerville.

 

Fort Wayne, Ind.-based developer The Fortus Group is in the early stages of planning a mixed-use development for the Centerville development, which would feature close to 300 luxury apartments, as well as ground floor space for retail.

Big Wright Bros. interstate monument gets state funding

A project to build a big Wright Bros. monument at the intersection of Interstate 70 and 75 has been earmarked for funds from the state, hoped to bring it a step closer to reality.

 

The proposed "Triumph of Flight" is envisioned to feature a 270-foot statue of the Wright Brothers flyer, as well as museum and park. The project, with a location southwest of the I-70/I-75 interchange, landed $250,000 in state funds in Ohio's capital budget, in a move that is hoped to spur its development, said Curt Nelson, VP of public information for the Wright Image Group Inc., a nonprofit that has been formed to make the project a reality.

$10.9M former Eaton High school project moves forward

A project that will redevelop the former Eaton High School into affordable housing is moving forward, with developers announcing today plans to open doors in January.

 

Residences at Eagles Point is an Miller-Valentine Group and H.I.T. Foundation project that will build out 40 apartment units and develop community space at the site of the former Preble County school.

Montgomery County fairgrounds officials are in discussion with the city of Huber Heights about acquiring 80 acres of land.

 

The parcel is owned by the city near the Interstate 70 and State Route 202 intersection.

Huber Heights to discuss potential land for fairgrounds

 

The Huber Heights city council will discuss city owned land that could be the next site of the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.

 

The Fair Board has been looking to sell the current fairgrounds in Dayton and make way for redevelopment of the site, and have formally entered into negotiations with Huber Heights over the potential new 80-acre site near Interstate 70.

Miami Valley Hospital South getting $60M expansion

Premier Health will invest $60 million in an expansion of its Miami Valley Hospital South property.

 

The company announced the project Monday, which will be completed in phases through late-2018. The expansion includes a new spine and joint center including an expanded sports medicine, sports performance and pain center services, as well as new office space for dozens more physicians.

Inside Kettering Health's new $53M cancer center

Kettering Health Network is preparing to open its new $53 million cancer care center across the street from its flagship hospital.

 

Construction on the five-story, 120,000-square-foot cancer center next to the campus of Kettering Medical Center is just about complete and the network will have an open house December 7, six days before it opens to patients. While a number of tasks remain before opening, the comprehensive cancer center, the biggest in the region, is coming together quickly.

New townhouses and apartments are proposed in Butler Township.

 

Columbus-based Spire Development and Lancaster-based Fairfield Homes are applying to develop the Butler Township rental units on land currently zoned as part of Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery immediately to the north, according to city documents.

Trotwood gets state grant for arts center renovation

Trotwood's community center will be getting upgrades to promote the arts with the help of a state grant.

 

Trotwood Community & Cultural Arts Center was approved for a $250,000 cultural facilities grant from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission for renovations to the center.

Kettering seeking funds for Rosewood Arts Centre updates

 

The city of Kettering is requesting funds to help pay for $4.6 million in upgrades at the Rosewood Arts Centre.

$187M Dayton Metro Library project moves to phase 3

 

The $187 million upgrade project of Dayton Metro Library's branches is moving into its third phase, with a Dayton construction firm selected to manage the projects.

 

Shook Construction announced in a press release today that it is contracted as construction manager for the $28 million phase, which includes:

 

    Building a new West Branch, at U.S. Route 35 and Abbey Avenue, combining the Madden Hills and Westwood branches;

    Renovating and expanding the West Carrollton Branch, in the West Carrollton Civic Center;

    Building a new Wilmington-Stroop Branch at the current site in Kettering; and

    Building a new Southeast Branch at Wayne and Watervliet Avenues, combining the Belmont and East Branches

Mayor Nan Whaley devoted much of her annual State of the City address to highlighting momentum in downtown Dayton.

 

In a crowded city hall Wednesday morning, Whaley focused her attention on the redevelopment efforts in downtown Dayton, as well as a look-ahead to the results of the income tax hike to be generated after voters approved Issue 9 in the November ballot. But the mayor said the signs are pointing in the positive direction for the city and the Miami Valley.

Allure, to be developed as a joint venture by Mills Development and Cincinnati-based Hills Properties, will be constructed by Cross Pointe Shopping Center at the site of the former Showcase Cinemas.

Montgomery County Fair finds new home

The Montgomery County Fair has found a new home after years of searching.

 

The fair board voted Tuesday night to relocate the Montgomery County Fairgrounds to part of Judge Arthur O. Fisher Park off Dayton-Liberty Road in Jefferson Township — a 130-acre county owned park. It's a new home following the agreement reached last year to sell its longtime 37-acre home near downtown to Premier Health and University of Dayton for $15 million.

Legal settlement to pave way for stalled Oakwood townhomes

A settlement could pave the way for work to begin on an Oakwood condo development after a year of legal fighting.

 

Oakwood city council approved a proposed settlement to allow for the construction of The Trails, an 84-unit condominium project along Old River Trail., with Hills Properties Inc., Oakwood Investment Group and residents in the Pointe Oakwood neighborhood. The proposal is subject to court approval, but could greenlight a development stuck in court for over a year.

5 Dayton-area projects apply for state tax credits

 

Developers with five different local projects are seeking a total $7.8 million in Ohio historic tax credits.

Along with the Arcade, four other local requests were filed including:

 

*$2 million requested for the Edward Wren Company Building at 31 E. High St., Springfield. The property is owned by the Turner Foundation.

*$655,000 requested for the Commodore Apartments at 522 W. Grand Ave., Dayton. Developer Lucas Mageno is seeking to renovate the vacant Grafton Hill apartment complex.

*$107,000 requested for the Coleman-Allen Building at 1 E. Main St., Troy. The building is owned by Troy Community Works Corp.

*$48,600 requested for 1500 E. Fifth St., Dayton. CMAX Advisors is planning to open a Dayton office at the St. Anne's building.

Grand opening planned for Eaton apartments

Developers will hold a grand opening Tuesday for an Eaton project that converted a former school to affordable housing.

 

The grand opening for Residences at Eagles Point will be 11 a.m. at the 307 N. Cherry St. apartments, according to a press release from Miller-Valentine Group, which is one of the developers.

Local city seeks to build pedestrian-friendly mixed-use main stretch

 

Clayton is hoping to attract more developers to its stretch of North Main Street.

 

The city approved a new Main Street overlay district Thursday night — intended to make it easier for property owners and developers to build along the roughly two-mile stretch of North Main Street within city limits. North Main Street, also State Route 48, passes through Clayton beginning at its intersection with Dog Leg Road northwest until Garber Road.

Oakwood library to embark on renovations

 

Wright Memorial Public Library will perform upgrades after receiving a large grant. The Oakwood library — on Far Hills Avenue — was awarded a $250,000 grant from The Jack W. and Sally D. Eichelberger Foundation of The Dayton Foundation.

 

The grant will allow it to restore its historic reading rooms and foyer; relocate and integrate the circulation and research desks; and create a small conference room and study area.

Renderings show new Montgomery County Fairgrounds

Renderings displayed today at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds showed an early look at what the new site will look like in Jefferson Township.

 

The fairgrounds are now in Dayton but will be rebuilt in Jefferson Township starting with an August groundbreaking.

Another Dayton-area library branch to undergo expansion, remodel

 

Dayton Metro Library’s countywide improvement project continues with its West Carrollton Branch Library. The branch will close on Sept. 2 to begin an expansion and remodeling.

 

The West Carrollton project expands the library from 10,000 to 15,000 square feet, while remaining connected to the Civic Center. Features of the new library include a quiet reading room, a large community room and group study rooms, a fireplace and dedicated spaces for children and teens.
