Myers University closes down Lorain branch

SCOT ALLYN, Morning Journal Writer02/22/2006

LORAIN -- Cleveland-based Myers University has closed its Lorain branch, according to Ronald Brown, vice president for enrollment management at the business-oriented university.

Brown said Lorain students would be able to complete their courses at Myers' Rocky River location, at 20525 Center Ridge Road.

''It was better for us to have one location in the west,'' said Brown. ''It will be much more reasonable financially to offer classes at one center than two. Classes scheduled in Lorain were switched to the Rocky River center, and they will meet at their scheduled times.''

I have to wonder why Myers had so many locations.  They aren't that big of a college.  I also wonder if Cleveland Heights is next.  It isn't so far from their Downtown/Midtown Campuses.

there's a campus in cleveland heights? that's news to me

Myers University is facing cash crisis

Without $1.2 million line of credit, school may have to close

Saturday, December 02, 2006

Jennifer Gonzalez

Plain Dealer Reporter

Without an immediate infusion of cash, Myers University -- the city's oldest four-year college -- could either be sold and merged with another institution or close altogether.

The crisis was triggered in June when the U.S. Department of Education decided to withhold $1.8 million in financial aid from the 158-year-old business school. The department made that decision after it determined that the college's financial situation had deteriorated.

Cash-strapped Myers University will stay open, its president predicted this week, though most likely as part of another university.

Richard Scaldini told groups of worried students that he receives calls each week from universities across the country seeking to buy the small downtown Cleveland business school. He declined to name the universities. "We've identified a few who are potential partners," he said.

I'm a Myers alum, and I'm very disappointed with all this. Feingold's delusions of granduer and his misadventure with the University Club is partly to blame. But this goes back longer than that. Ten years ago, Myers got a huge donation, remodeled its downtown location on Prospect at East Second, and was on sound footing. Then they bailed out of that building, added suburban locations and then got into the University Club BS. Time to simplify, maybe even go back to the way Myers use to operate, OK Scaldini?

Myers gets reprieve, classes set to start

Myers University finally has a letter of credit that will relieve its financial crisis.

The reprieve came after a board member committed $500,000 to keep the struggling institution open. Board member Jamie Pilla flew back from Florida early Friday to sign papers that guarantee a half-million-dollar loan to Myers from Independence Bank.

The money will be used in various ways to keep the institution running, said Myers President Richard Scaldini. Pilla's loan was also critical in winning the confidence of other lenders who signed on to cover a $1.2 million letter of credit required by the U.S. Department of Education.

Myers University will close, president says

Myers University will shut down at the end of this semester, according to its president, Richard Scaldini. He said students will be helped to make a smooth transition to another school.

At a meeting this morning, trustees were told the school has only enough money to pay its employees for two weeks. An e-mail sent later to students said a potential sale had fallen through.

These idiots have wrecked my alma mater. Thanks a lot for making my college degree a collector's item and "homeless." You bastards.

SO I wonder if it will still cary on with the Myers name when these VA people invest more money. Either way its probably not a good look for enrollment when your school almost closes at the end of every semester.

My wife works over at CSU's Cole Center. She said the phones were ringing non-stop with students from MU asking about enrollment options.

I wonder if CSU has thought of absorbing Myers?
