Cheyenne, Wyoming

Capital of Wyoming

Population chart:

1900 ~14,000

1950 ~32,000

2010 ~60,000

Metro just under 100,000

Find the following for fun:

State Capitol; Train Station; parking garage imitating historic structures; unfortunate cladding; a couple theaters; clouds that will become a tornado fifty miles east; some good looking buildings; and some other buildings

My sister lived there for a couple years because her husband was stationed at one of the Air Force bases near there.  They didn't have anything nice to say about Cheyenne, or its inhabitants.

Cool theater. I also liked The Wrangler.

Well that was depressing

Bicycles, but no horses

Not the most inspiring city in the country. Too bad it was such a gloomy day, I'm sure it would have looked a little better in better lighting.

I always look at these small towns and imagine how amazing they'd be if you scrunched the good buildings together and inserted them into a much larger, more successful city as a neighborhood. There are some decent bones here and some nice buildings but they're overpowered by the inanity of the other 75% of the built environment.

Hamilton!

Cheyenne. Boxy, but good!

It's small, less population than Youngstown.

It's also in the non-coastal west.  If Americans in general are more density averse than Europeans or Asians, westerners are even moreso.
