Posted June 24, 20159 yr This morning I went to have breakfast with a friend who was in town from Washington DC on business. He stayed in Kent and took the PARTA bus downtown. I came in from Lakewood on the Clifton BRT and then to the HealthLine BRT. After breakfast at the Huron Square Deli, we did a walking tour of downtown until he caught a bus to Rockside Road, then took the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic RR to Akron, then a PARTA bus back to Kent. Most of my photos were around the malls and of the Federal Reserve Bank interior. Heading downtown on the Clifton BRT. View of West 3rd from the articulated BRT trying to make a tight turn. West 3rd, like everything else, is under construction. Making the connection to the HealthLine on Public Square. On the HealthLine which got more full as we headed east on Euclid. In the past, the HealthLine got less busy the farther from Public Square we got. Many of the passengers who got on between Public Square at Playhouse Square were young people dressed nicely, as if they were heading to work somewhere eastward. I hopped off the HealthLine at Playhouse Square. You can see how full the bus had gotten. Renovation progress on the old Board of Education building, to become a Drury Plaza Hotel. Construction project on the county's new Convention Center Hotel, to be a Hilton. Super selfie! Amtrak station and North Coast Harbor beyond. Detroit fans in town to see their Tigers take 2 out of three from the Tribe. But we got their tourist'ing money! I see my neighborhood (Gold Coast) and the cranes on ships at the Port of Cleveland. Chicago-bound choo Choo. This one double-stack intermodal train takes about 300 trucks off the road. Interesting garden below the windows of the convention center ballrooms. I thought this was just a stunning view of downtown against a June morning sky. Federal Reserve Bank. East 6th entrance. A few photos from inside the Cleveland Federal Reserve. Cleveland is only one of the Federal Reserve cities represented on these grates. Seen from the second floor of the Money Museum. Back to Public Square to catch the Clifton BRT back to The 'Wood. Lotsa buses create a "transit wall" around Public Square. Downtown from the Clifton BRT (OK, Cleveland State Line) seen from the Main Avenue-Shoreway bridge. The Detroit-Superior Veterans Memorial Bridge is beyond. Ohio City from the Main Avenue-Shoreway bridge. This won't stay vacant for long. The Westinghouse property is for sale. Inquire within. West Shoreway, seen from the Clifton BRT. The lane closures have started which means this will be one of the last views of the West Shoreway as a freeway. It will soon be a 35-mph landscaped boulevard. The conversion of the Shoreway to a boulevard will improve access between the fast-growing neighborhood to the south of it and the lake. That includes an extension of West 73rd Street, which is starting to appear here. And that includes punching West 73rd through to Edgewater Park, underneath the busy NS/Amtrak tracks. The bridge deck was built first. Now underpass is just about completely excavated. If you love seeing construction, come to Cleveland in the next few months. Last year, Cleveland was ranked by a US contractors association as having the eighth-most construction jobs in the nation. I can believe it! Thanks for taking this weekday morning tour with me! June 24, 20159 yr What a day for a walk around downtown! I've never actually been inside the Federal Reserve Building, I've got to do that some day.
