i've seen this guy on the subway in nyc. yes he's a nut. there is obviously no "presumably" about his schizophrenia. i dont take photos of homeless and crazy people myself, but i'll let this blogger do the dirty work this one time. since i ride the trains a lot for work i'll say its typical. like waves breaking on the beach the homeless schizos are a bit stressful and generally harmless, but never turn your back on them!:

you never know when you just got on the crazy train. see the (presumably schizophrenic) gentleman pictured at left? that's right, he's wearing a mattress pad, tied on with various blanket strips. his turban is made out of a trash bag and two pairs of sweatpants, but HEY! it matches his outfit! this guy was chillin' on the D one afternoon, yelling about jews, and how he was the secret chosen destroyer of the unfaithful underlords of russia or something, and informing us that giuliani lived in the corpses of the black man and such. it was pretty awesome. just thought i'd let you know.

Do you think the mattress pads kept the crazy leaking out of him from staining the outside world?

The N train after midnight is definitely a crazy person train.

I've seen this guy too! I'm afraid to look him in the eye. I've never felt the need to hide the Star of David around my neck - not even in Syria - until I found myself on the D train with *this* guy!

i always find the difference between the nyc subway and the DC metro interesting.

^so do new yorkers! i mean carpet on the floor? whaaat?

Pope, you haven't ridden the Metro enough.  We get our share of yahoos.  They seem to inhabit the Green Line in significant numbers.

Yeah, i lived in ballston, so mainly i rode the Orange and Red lines (towards rockville) and the occasional trip on the yellow/green/blue.

but yeah,i basically rode the white-collar suburb lines

i get to dc fairly often. its not even close to the same thing as far as nutcases. unless you count the ladies who say, "you cant eat in here!" or "you cant drink that!" hehe. nuts are nuts tho.

In DC, however, all of the nuts linger around the subway exits just as you surface...this is mainly at night but I have seen nothing like it anywhere else.
