Accepting your premise that there do seem to be issues around most corners, the reasoning is likely that FCC is starting MLS play in 2019, and as such things need to move at a faster pace than normal. FCC doesn't want to be another Minnesota. That is, they want to be competing for titles right out of the gate. Hence the added urgency in terms of getting all their infrastructure up and running ASAP. The philosophy seems to be, if they have to cut corners here and there, so be it. If I was worth $x billion, I might think the same way. (I'm not, and I don't.)

Mercy Health lands naming rights for FC Cincinnati training complex

 

 

Mercy Health has scored the naming rights for FC Cincinnati’s planned training complex in Milford.

 

Cincinnati-based Mercy Health, which operates five local hospitals and 16 others in Ohio, declined to disclose how much the system will pay to be the title sponsor.

 

Construction began this afternoon for the Mercy Health Training Center, which is to cost $30 million. A 30,000-square-foot building is to rise on 24 acres off Lila Avenue (U.S. 50). The site near Interstate 275 in Clermont County is to include several practice fields for the soccer team.

FCC clinched the United Soccer League regular-season title (the Supporters' Shield) on the road Wednesday with a 4-1 win over the Richmond Kickers at City Stadium, while extending its unbeaten streak to 20 games, becoming the winningest club in league history with three matches to go and establishing a handful of other new standards.

 

The shield is the club's first piece of silverware in its last USL season before rising to Major League Soccer next year and gives Cincinnati home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

FC Cincinnati unveils MLS branding

 

FC Cincinnati has unveiled a new logo for its initial season in Major League Soccer, and it more prominently features the city and team’s name.

 

FC Cincinnati’s new logo, announced at an invitation-only ceremony on Monday evening at the Woodward Theater in Over-the-Rhine, gives the club a new identity as it heads into MLS next season as an expansion franchise.

 

The logo features a few differences from the original logo, as you can see in the attached slideshow. It keeps the blue and orange color scheme with FC Cincinnati prominently featured on a blue and white background along with the team’s winged lion insignia on an orange background.

FC Cincinnati about to hit more attendance milestones as it enters MLS

 

The team’s season ticket sales are on the verge of topping 20,000, FC Cincinnati president and general manager Jeff Berding said Tuesday at his “State of the Team." 

 

And ticket sales for FC Cincinnati’s home opener March 17 vs. the Portland Timbers have already topped the team’s record home-opening crowd in the United Soccer League of 25,667. That number will keep rising. “We expect continued swift sales as the date approaches,” he said. “We’re hoping for over 30,000 at the inaugural game.”

 

FC Cincinnati has the second-most merchandise sales of any MLS expansion club as it enters the season, Berding said. And that was done in just three months.

So I heard that Toyota Mercy Health built their practice field out in Milford...to avoid paying City of Cincinnati earnings tax.  That's effing lame.  The Bengals players make way more money and they practice in Cincinnati. 

Also, I listened to Toyota Mercy Health's game on the radio Saturday.  The band kept playing after Philadelphia's first goal.  Then after the second.  Then after the final whistle.  It was like that "flesh wound" scene in Monte Python. 

 

I'm speaking as a vet of several football and basketball pep bands -- you don't play when the opponent scores.  You don't play all the way back to the locker room when you just got shut out.

Alan Koch relieved of his duties as FC Cincinnati head coach

 

FC Cincinnati announced Tuesday that head coach Alan Koch has been relieved of his duties with the team.

 

“After a series of recent issues and a team culture that had deteriorated, we determined that it’s time to make a change to return a club-centered focus to the team,” Jeff Berding, FC Cincinnati president and general manager said in a press release from the team. 

 

He adds that removing Koch as coach has less to do with the team's current game results, and more to do with an underlying culture issue that may be causing issues on the pitch.

Alan Koch’s run as FC Cincinnati’s Major League Soccer head coach didn’t last long.

 

FC Cincinnati fired Koch Tuesday, just 11 games into the team’s inaugural MLS season. Koch had previously been FC Cincinnati’s coach for its last two seasons in the United Soccer League, leading the team to two playoff appearances, one playoff win and an U.S. Open Cup semifinal, before it became an MLS expansion club starting this season.

 

But FC Cincinnati opened this season with a 2-7-2 record, leaving the club tied for last place in the 12-team Eastern Conference. It's tied for the second-worst record in all of MLS. 

 

Worse, FC Cincinnati hasn’t shown much progress in recent weeks. The club hasn’t scored a goal in its last five games. And it’s scored just one goal – on a penalty kick – in the last seven games. Its eight total goals scored this season ranks last in the 24-team league.

Sources: FC Cincinnati to hire Ron Jans as next head coach

FC Cincinnati has hired Dutch manager Ron Jans as their new head coach, sources tell The Athletic. Jans is currently waiting for his work visa to be approved, but is expected to take the helm as soon as he receives it. 
 

The hire provides an air of symmetry for the club’s new general managerGerard Nijkamp. Among his first tasks at his last post with Eredivisie side PEC Zwolle was to hire a new head coach. Jans was his pick. The manager helped Zwolle beat Ajax to win the 2013–14 KNVB Cup in his first year and posted a 39 percent winning record in 159 matches in charge. Jans left Zwolle after the 2016-17 season to serve as FC Groningen’s director of football. He left that position on June 30th.
 

Nijkamp created a stir earlier in July when he referred to the next FC Cincinnati coach as a “caretaker” for the next 18 months. He later clarified that whoever stepped into the role would have a chance to be reassessed ahead of the team’s new stadium opening for 2021. The sources weren’t clear on the exact terms of Jans’ deal.

^ People have been calling it that since the first season in 2016. Like it or not, it's an alternative that has stuck. I think it's largely because the USL logo prominently displaced FC over everything else (it was a truly terrible logo)

That's essentially what I hear when I hear someone refer to the team as 'FC'. People are using it as a nickname like "The Bengals" when it isn't really meant to be used that way.

 

As someone who has been closely involved with soccer for a long time, hearing someone refer to their team as 'FC' when their team's name is XYZCity FC is just humorous for me because nobody does that.

 

Liverpool FC is not 'FC', they are Liverpoorl. Everton FC are not 'FC', they are Everton. FC Barcelona are not 'FC', they are Barcelona or Barca. AC Milan are not 'AC', they are Milan. AS Roma are not 'AS', they are Roma. AFC Bournemouth are not 'AFC', they are Bournemouth.

Coincidentally the team I support in Germany does that exact thing. 1. FC Köln.

 

It's shorthanded to "FC" and spelled how it's pronounced: "Effzeh".

It's fans.  I never heard the term "supporter" until 3 years ago, despite playing organized soccer for 8+ years, attending many games, watching overseas games on late-night cable in the 90s, and knowing people who displayed European soccer memorabilia in their homes.  

 

Every time I hear "supporter", I gag at the thought of a Bartles & James revival:

Soccer fans have always been insecure because there is already a sport named football.  It's like how Rollerblading never really had a proper name, since Rollerblade was a brand name.  When the X-Games dubbed it "Aggressive In-line Skating", it was a pejorative orchestrated by skateboarding companies to beat down the nascent competitor.

Oh dear lord. God forbid we call the game by its proper terms. I don't care if you call the score zero-zero but the proper term in nil-nil. Jersey is a kit, field is a pitch. blah blah blah. I'll call them by the proper terms but if you don't that's no big deal to me. It also shouldn't matter to you when people use the proper terms, I feel sorry for you if it does. Also, US is not the only country to call it soccer. Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Philippines, South Africa and Ireland all call it soccer or use soccer and football interchangeably. In Italy it's called Calicio and in many SE Asian country's it's called kick ball. While the name of the sport changes the matchs are still played on pitches with players wearing kits. It has nothing to do with EPL or wanting to be European to me. I don't follow any other league than MLS. I can only name maybe 5 or 6 EPL clubs. 

 

Are you upset in French game of Tennis and the score LOVE instead of Zero or when score is actually 3-1 but it's called 40-15? 

Are you mad when baseball purists remind you baseball is played in a ballpark and not a stadium?

Are you mad at the Scottish game golf? The word bogey?

 

Probably not, as this is just about poo-pooing on soccer and it's fans...erhm supporters. Oh no...I'm sorry...fans.  You're just coming off as old man yells at cloud meme because you're triggered by the fact that people are starting use to soccer proper terms.

No one likes to tell people that they don't like a sport more then people who don't like soccer.  I don't care for hockey so I just don't follow the sport.  I don't go into the Blue Jackets thread and talk about how dumb a sport it is or how I think the language they use is stupid.

Pretty much no one cares if you say nil-nil or scoreless or zero-zero. There's a large group of people that don't follow soccer that think if you use the "wrong terms" people will complain. No one cares. zero-zero is just two extra syllables. I would personally say it's scoreless.

 

And in general, there are fans in the stands. There is a subset of fans that are called "supporters" who sit in a designated section. It's the supporters who generally lead chants, play drums, light smoke, etc. And if you call them fans, no one cares. There just needs to be a distinction so that people who don't want to be in that section don't sit there. So they call it a "Supporter's Section". Everyone in the stadium is a fan. You can call everyone fans.

 

Also, for all of the talk about how the MLS fans want to emulate the EPL, that's not really true. There aren't drums or smoke at EPL games. There's much more singing in MLS matches than EPL matches. These traits have much more in common with the German Bundesliga and Eastern European leagues.

If tennis had a history of being played in the States with terms like "tied" and scores like 3-1, then suddenly people started saying "love" and using 45-15, yeah, it would probably bother me. But as long as I've known the sport it's been love/45-15. Was there a time before that?

 

Anyhow, this is how language evolves. And probably what you're calling the "proper" terms will become the only terms, eventually. C'est la vie. I would just personally prefer it if we could stick with our Americanisms. Those feel more authentic to me than chasing "proper" terms.

Right, but Americans have traditionally only used soccer. But suddenly we have "Football Club Cincinnati" -- which is silly. That's all I'm saying, really. I'm fully aware it's a personal preference.
