May 21, 20205 yr Jaap Stam Named Head Coach FC Cincinnati General Manager Gerard Nijkamp has announced the official hiring of Jaap Stam (pronounced YAHPP STAHM) as the club’s new head coach. Stam, 47, joins FC Cincinnati following managerial stints in England at Reading (2016-18), as well as in his native Holland at PEC Zwolle (2018-19) and Feyenoord (2019). Stam had a prolific 15-year playing career which saw him star at some of the highest-profile clubs in the world in the Netherlands, England and Italy – including PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Lazio, A.C. Milan and Ajax. “We are very happy and pleased to have Jaap Stam become FC Cincinnati’s new head coach,” FC Cincinnati General Manager Gerard Nijkamp said. “He has an extensive background in being part of some of the most successful clubs in the world as a player and has also proven that he can guide teams through transitionary periods as a head coach. “I strongly believe that Jaap can lead us through our next phase, to our new stadium, and help us achieve our goals in the future, making players better and bringing his knowledge and experience inside the club. I have full confidence that he will be successful at FC Cincinnati and will be a great fit to carry out our established playing philosophy and guide the club to achieve future successes,” Nijkamp said. The new FC Cincinnati head coach will be formally introduced via an online video call with media at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, May 22, which will also be streamed on the club’s Facebook page. “For myself, to get the opportunity to work in America and to work in MLS for a club like FC Cincinnati, it’s a dream,” Stam said. “I’ve always liked the country and I’ve always liked the mentality of the people in the States as well in what they’re trying to achieve. “To get the opportunity to work for FC Cincinnati and this project by building the club – hopefully even further than where they already are, because I think they’ve already done a great job – but being a presence as a team, even more in MLS, getting results and working together with the fans and everybody already working within the club, for me it’s a big challenge to do well.” He will oversee his first FC Cincinnati training session upon his arrival in the U.S., which is pending the receipt of his U.S. P-1 Visa. “We’re excited to welcome Jaap to the club,” Carl H. Lindner III, FC Cincinnati CEO and Controlling Owner, said. “Through this search process, we were very focused on ensuring we had aligned ambitions with our next head coach, and we believe we’ve found a perfect candidate for FC Cincinnati’s next phase. We’re pleased to have Jaap as part of the family and look forward to him joining us soon.” “I want to applaud the search that Gerard led for us,” Jeff Berding, FC Cincinnati president, said. “It was a thorough and comprehensive global search that yielded a deep and talented candidate pool. We’re happy to welcome Jaap to Cincinnati and look forward to him leading us as we start a new chapter of our club story.” Stam is the fourth head coach in the club’s MLS history and its fifth overall, including its United Soccer League seasons (2016-18). He has signed a managerial contract through Dec. 31, 2021 with a one-year club option for the 2022 season. NEW ASSISTANT COACH Also joining Stam’s coaching staff in Cincinnati is new assistant coach Said Bakkati, who will formally join the staff in Cincinnati upon receipt of his U.S. work visa. Bakkati served on Stam’s staff previously at Jong Ajax, Reading, PEC Zwolle and Feyenoord. Bakkati was born in Groningen, Nertherlands, and enjoyed a 15-year professional playing career as a fullback that included stops throughout the Netherlands including Heerenveen (2000-06), ADO Den Haag (2006-07), Go Ahead Eagles (2007-09), FC Zwolle (2009-12) and FC Emmen (2012-15). May 22, 20205 yr FC Cincinnati’s Lindner: ‘We’re going to lose a large amount of money FC Cincinnati controlling owner Carl Lindner III wants to get back to playing games as soon as it’s safe, even though he knows his Major League Soccer club will take a financial hit without fans. “We’re going to lose a large amount of money,” Lindner told me in an exclusive interview Wednesday. “When you have no revenues and only expenses, that’s a tough business.” FC Cincinnati COO Dennis Carroll said recently FC Cincinnati gets about 90% of its revenue from playing games at home in front of fans. “In Major League Soccer, most of the revenues are driven by the gate, more so than in other sports,” Lindner, who is also co-CEO of downtown-based insurer American Financial Group Inc. (NYSE: AFG), told me. “It is particularly painful as you go through it. But I’m thankful we have long-range-minded investors that are excited about what we’re doing and we’ll get through it.” Cont (subscriber content) "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
February 5, 20214 yr I heard some news that FC Cincinnati is about to make some GIANT player acquisitions. News should come out soon. I hope it’s true.
February 5, 20214 yr Author Rumors are it's Argentinian midfielder Gonzalo "Pity" Martinez (formerly of Atlanta United, most recently in Saudi Arabia) and young Brazilian striker Brenner Souza da Silva, known simply as Brenner from São Paulo. Pity Martinez currently holds the record for the most expensive transfer fee in MLS history when Atlanta United signed him in 2019. Rumors are swirling that Brenner may have an even higher transfer fee than Pity Martinez's fee a couple years ago. Both are huge signings for the club. This may be a sign that our current DP Jürgen Locadia could be traded to another team before the start of the season. Apparently there was interest, and he is currently on loan to FC Cincinnati. It's looking unlikely we would take him up on his contract when the loan expires.
February 11, 20214 yr https://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-transfers/story/4307350/fc-cincinnati-signs-striker-brenner-from-brazils-sao-paulo FC Cincinnati has signed striker Brenner from Sao Paulo, the Brazilian club announced. Sources told ESPN that the deal is worth around $13 million plus an additional $2m if incentives are met. If the final payout does reach $15m that would tie the previous record signing in MLS, when Ezequiel Barco moved from Argentina's Independiente to Atlanta in 2018 for the similar amount. Brenner, 21, would likely be classified as a Young Designated Player, meaning his cap hit will be substantially lower than it would be for a regular Designated Player. ... Brenner scored 22 goals in 44 matches for Sao Paulo this season and his performances had alerted the attention of clubs across Europe.

March 24, 20214 yr The complete 2021 schedule has been released. FCC will appear on national TV three times this coming season. As a Crew fan, I'm definitely not happy about our game in Cincinnati being on a Wednesday night as it will be more difficult to make the trip down. However, given that it's somewhat of a holiday week, it should be a bit easier for Crew fans to travel down than on a normal Wednesday night.

July 18, 20213 yr https://www.mlssoccer.com/competitions/mls-regular-season/2021/matches/mtlvscin-07-17-2021/ WTF FCCincy?!? Last week you make MLS history by being the first MLS team to not win after being up two goals and up one player - now this week you blow two separate two-goal leads to lose at Montreal 5-4(!)
July 22, 20213 yr That Montreal 'L' was a real demoralizer. This was the first home match I've skipped and, as I don't have cable, I didn't even watch on TV. July 22, 20213 yr Vermeer had like 8 saves. This team just can't seem to hold onto a lead. It's a shame because Acosta, Barreal and Brenner have been so much fun to watch. As a whole, this season has at least been entertaining compared to the last few seasons in MLS but still so damn frustrating. No, no wins at TQL yet. Edited July 22, 20213 yr by cincydave8

Yea, the past month has probably been your best stretch since joining the league. You've earned points in five of the last six games. I know back to back blown leads to Columbus and MTL really sucked, but those are teams that you wouldn't have even competed with in prior seasons.

August 6, 20213 yr FC Cincinnati and General Manager Gerard Nijkamp Agree to Mutually Part Ways FC Cincinnati announced today that the club and general manager Gerard Nijkamp have parted ways effective immediately. The club will begin the search for a permanent successor immediately. “I would like to thank Gerard for his commitment and dedication to FC Cincinnati. Gerard has been a key leader in the development in our project – opening of TQL Stadium, improving the roster, player development from the Academy to the first team, and building a broader soccer infrastructure that positions us for success in the future,” said FC Cincinnati President Jeff Berding. “We sincerely appreciate Gerard’s efforts over the past two years and respect his decision to return to his family in Europe. We wish him and his family the best of luck moving forward. With a significant portion of the season remaining, our focus is on improving our play on the pitch and earning a playoff spot. Our search for Gerard’s successor will begin immediately and focus on identifying the leader that best aligns with our ambition to win a championship in Major League Soccer.” Nijkamp served as the club’s general manager since May 30, 2019, guiding the team to a 7-20-10 regular season record. “I’m proud of the foundation we have here and all the hard work everyone has put into it,” said Nijkamp. “I will always be thankful to ownership and leadership for the chance to serve this club. While this has been an exciting opportunity, I have decided to pursue positions closer to my family. I wish the team the best moving forward.” "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
September 5, 20213 yr Sigh. I’ve reached the point of no longer caring again. At least the Reds are in The hunt for a postseason spot, the Bengals are about to start and World Cup qualifying has already started.

October 4, 20213 yr FC Cincinnati hires a general manager FC Cincinnati has hired a general manager with more than two decades of Major League Soccer experience, a move that’s expected to lead to a new head coach soon. FC Cincinnati brought in Chris Albright as its general manager, replacing Gerard Nijkamp. FC Cincinnati and Nijkamp parted ways in August in what was described as a mutual decision. Nijkamp had been the club’s general manager since May 2019. Albright has his work cut out for him. FC Cincinnati has MLS’ worst record this season, with a 4-15-8. This is an historically bad expansion trifecta of three last-place finishes in their first three MLS seasons: YIKES - its either laugh or cry:
October 28, 20213 yr If they don't turn it around next year, the front office is going to have a financial nightmare on their hands. 2022 season won't have the shiny new stadium draw to fall back on. Jeff Berding will probably wish he stuck with the Bengals.
December 20, 20213 yr Author Cincinnati has a new head coach and has signed two players for next year. Pat Noonan, previously an assistant coach under Chris Albright's Philadelphia Union, is the new head coach. We also signed Alec Kann, the backup keeper for Atlanta United (highly regarded keeper). The goalkeeper position was a huge problem for us in 2021, with two expensive international players not performing well. We still have Kenneth Vermeer (Dutch international) on an expensive contract, as well as Beckham Sunderland, an academy product, on our roster. Finally, we brought back Alvas Powell who we let go after the inaugural season. Fans were happy to see him go when he did leave, but the new leaders have faith in him after working with him for half of 2021. We'll see how it all works out. Plenty more moves to come before the first match on February 26. https://www.fccincinnati.com/news/fc-cincinnati-hire-pat-noonan-as-head-coach
July 12, 20222 yr This team seems to be gaining some steam! Good to see, it’s been a long road hopefully they keep playing competitively. Also: When Cincy lost its FIFA 2026 bid a few weeks ago Jeff Berding apparently mentioned the team has officially put in a bid for a MLS All Star Game. 2025 in particular if I’m not mistaken. This should be a pretty easy get as it’s much smaller than MLBs All Star game that the city hosted back around 2015. But if awarded it still should be fun. Edited July 12, 20222 yr by 646empire

Cincy, Columbus, Nashville, Austin and St Louis should all be in line to host in the next 6-7, assuming they want to. They all have (or will have in St Louis) brand new stadiums. Generally, when a team builds a new stadium they end up hosting the ASG within a few years.
March 29, 20232 yr FC Cincinnati is undefeated through five games despite the team's top strikers only scoring one goal a piece. Inter Miami comes to town this weekend with some key injuries and a poor run of form so here's hoping FCC can keep the undefeated streak alive.
April 12, 20232 yr Another week, another FCC win. Brenner looked to have a great goal on a volley but it was called back. Fortunately for Cincy the call was for a penalty that Lucho Acosta converted. Acosta unfortunately hurt his shoulder and will be out for a couple weeks. FCC plays newcomer St. Louis City SC (who had the best start for an expansion franchise in MLS history) this Saturday and with some injuries to key players, it might be a tough outing. Also, three FCC players got called up to the US Men's National Team for their friendly against Mexico next week.
April 27, 20232 yr Last night FCC hosted their old rivals, Louisville City, in the US Open Cup. It was a pretty decent sized crowd for an Open Cup game on a Wednesday night and there was a strong contingent of Louisville fans. It took a while but FCC came away with a 1-0 win and are now 6-0 at TQL Stadium in all competitions this season. They will find out who they play in the next round later today. Possible opponents are Columbus, New England Revolution and Loudon United of the USL.

May 8, 20232 yr Where are you gonna go? FC Cincinnati games apparently. FCC defeated DC United on Saturday in a 2-1 thriller in front of another sold out crowd over over 25,000. It's amazing what having an ownership group committed to winning and learning from past mistakes can do for a fan base. The Reds could learn a thing or two. FCC is now 8-0 at home in all competitions and has sold out every league match this year. FCC hosts NYCFC in the US Open Cup on Wednesday then has a week off before a Wednesday night home match against Montreal next week.
May 22, 20232 yr The first Hell is Real Derby of 2023 went to FCC in a 3-2 thriller. I could be wrong but I think FCC has won 10 straight at home in all competitions including 8 in league play. The atmosphere was off the charts. FC Cincinnati is out-pacing the New England team that set a league record for most wins in a season two years ago. Here's a clip of the Bailey going wild after the first goal
July 14, 20231 yr FCC had a smash and grab win at NY Red Bulls on Wednesday and host the second place team in the East, Nashville, tomorrow. The Garys are on pace to possibly have the best regular season record in MLS history and have almost secured a playoff spot before the All-Star and Leagues Cup break. Saturday should be fun as new designated player Aaron Boupenza and star players Matt Miazga and Brandon Vazquez are available to play while Nashville is missing two starting defenders due to red card suspensions.
July 17, 20231 yr Just crazy how well FCC is doing. I don't follow futbol as closely as the other sports, but what a source of civic pride they have become. Good days to be a Cincy sports fan.
August 27, 20231 yr I know not how a lot of FC Cincinnati fans here would have hoped this would go, but as a NE Ohioan just out to see a good game, FC Cincinnati - Inter Miami in the semifinals of the US Open Cup did not disappoint:
September 22, 20231 yr FC Cincinnati signs Lucho Acosta, runaway MVP candidate, to long-term deal Luciano Acosta, FC Cincinnati’s All-Star attacking midfielder and team captain, has signed a long-term extension to remain with the club. FCC announced the deal with Acosta Friday, Sept. 22, after months of rumors about whether – and for how long – the club’s best player and Major League Soccer’s runaway MVP candidate would remain in the Queen City. The extension runs through 2026 with an option for 2027.
