May 31, 20187 yr Well, Dougal was right to sound the alarm above on Ikea's future US plans - and we may now know why no CLE/Garfield Heights announcement, when it seemed so imminent: 3 new suburban stores Ikea already announced and that were in the works - including the first stores planned for fast-growth Nashville and Raleigh - were cancelled in the last week - with no mention of alternate locations in those areas that might be more in keeping with Ikea's new small/urban approach. https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/2018/05/29/ikea-store-location-nashville-antioch-near-me/654149002/ It would be good to think that perhaps a Tower City Ikea showroom might be a great new, urban-Ikea solution for CLE (shop there to look and touch... order online) - but not holding my breath... It used to be a traffic jam every day at popular times and all day on the weekends; now it no longer is - and nothing has been done to the roadways. I never heard Browns Stadium called CBS. I just say 'Browns Stadium' though I have said "muny stadium" or "Municipal Stadium" a few times.....I know its a different structure....but the location is the same. I am old.

I hate IKEA mostly for it's cheap ugly products but also for it's sprawling warehouse footprints and "pick & load yourself" sales approach... If the downtown had a show room only with warehouse elsewhere, with delivery, I think that's a great model. They seem to like the GIANT BOX with highway exposure on major suburban arteries, at least in Canton MI, Pittsburgh and Columbus...

Has IKEA tried an urban format because they're very big on the massive maze-like structures set across acres of flat surface parking. I don't think I've been to an Ikea with vertical parking. However, plenty of stores are trying out smaller urban formats.

I'm sure the general public here would be disappointed that they're not getting a full size store, but I really like it. Seems like a more traditional furniture store, like a Pottery Barn or whatever versus a mega big box store. Its less than 10K sq ft, which is a fraction of the size of a normal store that's hundreds of thousands of square feet. Although I'm sure it would be tested in larger markets here first, yay Cleveland.
September 15, 20186 yr ^It's actually really small, and the displays seemed geared toward the systems furniture, like Kitchens, Media Centers and closets...where you would design and plan it. They did have a good amount of staff to assist in that though. I guess the stand alone pieces you just look at pics in the catalog or online and order. I must say, that mall is super busy, and the stuff looked really beat up from the wear and tear. That's not normal residential usage of course and we know it's not commercial grade, but it didn't give a good impression for buyers. The hinges start to sag, finishes get scatched...etc.

April 20, 20232 yr Instead of going to an IKEA, which is difficult without a car, I have found that ordering online and having it delivered works great. I think it cost $60 last time I did it. This week, I put in an order and noticed they will deliver it to any Walgreens for just a $4 delivery fee. I am trying this for the first time this week. I'm supposed to get a text tomorrow when it is ready for Pickup.

However, Nashville, which had an announced and then cancelled on 2018 full sized store did get one of the first "pick up points" in the country last year and who knows how IKEA will build in the coming years. CLE/NEO continues to be the largest US metro without a store... UPDATE: apparently Ckeveland has an IKEA pick up point ourselves, in Brunswick, which seems to have opened with little fanfare...
