Great photos!  There are many changes happening that I hadn't noticed so far.  It gives a sense of how much has been accomplished and how much is in currently progress.  Thanks for posting these.

I hate to complain, but I can't believe these four balconies were allowed on that building's facade on 14th.  I'm sure its nice to have the outdoor space, but wow, what an eyesore on an otherwise beautiful structure:

Thanks for the tour!

^I think they are a little bigger than they should be, but I'm not too opposed to them having balconies. There are balconies and fire escapes all over the buildings facing Washington Park. I know they weren't originally on this one, but it's gotta add a lot of value to the property. Maybe if they weren't so big and only allowed for two small chairs it wouldn't be so noticeable.

That last building is different!

The problem with balconies is that people hardly use them.

I used mine all the time when I had one. You get the impression no one uses them because they aren't home most of the time.

I'm out on mine almost everyday. It's 9'x5' sandwiched between two brick walls four flights up and I spent quite a bit of time, money, and energy this spring making it more pleasant. Put down teak flooring, got some lights, got a table, put some plants out, etc. It's a great thing to have and is used all the time by myself and guests. My neighbors below me are quite regularly out on theirs as well.

Fantastic photo set. You capture OTR and Downtown well.

I'm usually posted up on my fire escape above main every evening or so, watching the world go by. I have noticed that I seem to be one of the few occupied fire escapes, though.

New paint going on the Guildhaus:

Such a beautiful building, but absolutely the worst apartment I have ever lived in my life (and I lived in a tiny mold infested apartment in a basement at one point in time). I hope that as development moves up Vine, this building is given the love it actually deserves.

I love Cincinnati architecture.

btw...Where is the bootsy collins mural?

It's James Brown.  Bootsy Collins was his bass player in the late 60s and early 70s.  The mural depicts James Brown in the late 50s-early 60s when he was recording for Cincinnati's King Records but before Bootsy Collins and his brother joined his band.

Incidentally I'd suggest everyone listen to the Mr. Rhythm Man show every Saturday on WNKU 6-9pm where they play at least 30-60 minutes of live James Brown.

^Ha.  I think he meant "why doesn't Bootsy have a mural yet?"

Fair enough, but that's on the side or in the back of the building, which is absolutely fine.  What I'm talking about are balconies added to the facade, particularly modern, off-center additions.  It just ruins the aesthetic of the building.

But I don't want to derail this thread.  Great photos.  Thanks again!

^ nobody in ny uses balconies either. they are for storage if anything on older apts with them --- and most new construction doesn't include them.

great shots here  --- its just so refreshing to see all the care and rehabbery, especially in otr in particular for ohio, but really in all our city cores these days.

i'm just so sick of senseless teardowns of beautiful historic structures --- looking at you cle thermal plant  :whip:  --- we need more threads like this that are about saving & repurposing.

and yes somebody needs to get on a bootsy mural asap!

Great thread and all...but...

...where's my LA THREAD!?!?

My grandparents were seemingly the only people who used their balcony in their entire condo complex.  They were out there all the time.  I spent at least 100 afternoons and evenings on that balcony and never once saw anyone doing anything on any of the 30-40 balconies visible from theirs.  Just about everyone had grills but you almost never saw anyone grilling.

What a wonderful tour, thanks! Cincinnati is so beautiful and you captured it perfectly!

Beautiful shots, I love Cincy's east coast type construction!
