Cleveland - Ohio City, East Cleveland, and Little Italy 8/15/15

Wanting to get out of the apartment, my roommate and I  braved the heat and made our way out to the east side for a little excursion, but not before walking to BonBon for lunch. The only pictures I have of our wonderful meal there are on instagram because I'm a stereotypical millennial. After lunch, we walked over to the red line:

We made it onto the platform right as the doors were closing, but thanks to the friendly train operator, we made it onto the train and headed to our first destination, East Cleveland.

I'm not sure if this building is being rehabbed or is being prepped for demo. I'm hoping it's the former.

We had planned on walking around East Cleveland more, but it was really hot. Since we mainly ventured out there for a project I'm working on (for fun), we just walked around the project site and then headed back to the train station.

Our next stop was Little Italy, where we were able to stop by for a brief visit to the Feast of the Assumption while also getting the chance to check out the brand new Little Italy/Mayfield station.

Soo much potential in East Cleveland. It really could be the gem it once was.

Excellent shots.

Great photos! Looked like a fantastic day (inspite of the heat!)

Quick question: What's the story behind the second, white brick apartment tower pictured? It looks like it's gutted? Hadn't seen that one before, and it sadly looks like a vertical embodiment of E.C.'s neglect.

Thanks everyone!

brtshrcegr[/member] - That's the Huron Place apartments and I couldn't find any information about the current plans for the building, but I'm guessing it will be demolished. The current owner has a $500,000+ delinquent tax balance, so I'm hoping someone at the city or perhaps at the CCLRC has made a BOR tax foreclosure request (unlikely) or that someone is trying to deal with the neglected property (also unlikely). There was a foreclosure case back in 2012, but it was dismissed...can't find anything about what the current status of the building is, although there was this Channel 5 piece back in 2013.

If anyone wants to look into it further, the address is 13800 Terrace Rd. (PPN: 672-28-009)

Awesome pics. Love to hear more about your East Cleveland project. And I love to see when people use the Rapid for their urban explorations. What a mass of humanity at the Feast.

Thanks. And the project is really just a creative outlet for me, nothing serious and definitely not something that will happen for a long time (if ever). So far all I've really done is create a site plan/map of redevelopment opportunities centered around the Superior Rapid Station, created a database of properties I'm interested in, and did a property survey of the project sites, which can be partially seen above. Some of the pictures I did not share are intended to help me draw the massing/site elevations for the project.

Interesting! We've been looking at East Cleveland recently for investment as well.

Well, what I'm working on is pure fantasy, I don't have any money. Unless someone had a couple hundred million dollars lying around and they want to make my project reality. ^_^

Very nice photos.

I'm thinking that handsome building in the East Cleveland photos (the Tudor-style building with the castle crenelations next to the unsightly open dumpster) may be getting a face lift.  It seems that a few of these old beauties fronting Euclid have been getting some rehab... I for one, hope Cleveland annexes EC.  Not just for the 17,000 population boost, but to pump some money into this important community.  Both EC's citizens and classic buildings (both of which are steadily disappearing) deserve better.

andrew0816[/member] Thanks!  I found this link with more info on Huron Place Apartments. It's amazing to see how far this building has gone in just a matter of a year or two. Amazing that an owner (and management company) would just walk away like this.

great job -- you know even looking at properties and planning are very positive steps. ec cannot be annexed by cle soon enough.
