Posted September 21, 20159 yr The third largest city in Maine, where one turns south for Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park on I-95...
September 21, 20159 yr I think it looks great. Northern blandness? I can't put my finger on it exactly. Bland probably wasn't the right word. The architecture is great...it just doesn't look warm and inviting to me. It could be the lack of people. Or that some of the storefronts look dated or closed off.
September 21, 20159 yr I think it is the buried utilities and the lack of fire escapes that you are probably not used to. I only see a few. But, yeah, there is something missing and I can't put my finger on it either. Otherwise, these are beautiful shots. Bangor has an international airport too!
September 21, 20159 yr I don't see anything bland about it. Striking architectural mix, very few vacant storefronts, even fewer gaps in the streetscape, buildings well-maintained, lots of traffic and parked vehicles (true, only a handful of pedestrians and people dining outdoors, but the traffic indicates people are there). And many of the upper floors appear to be occupied. It's definitely got the New England vibe -- a jumble of streets rather than a grid (which makes for great angles in the streetscapes)and rows of substantial four-story buildings). It looks to me to be a very vibrant place.
