January 6, 20214 yr 1 hour ago, Rabbit Hash said: I like this plan. What is everyone's thoughts? Absolutely makes sense. The NCAA lost $800 million by cancelling last year's tournament. This will at least give it a shot at happening. The NFL should be doing the same thing with playoffs/Superbowl over the next 4 weeks.
April 4, 20214 yr The 2021 "Pandemic Tournament" has produced some upsets, but very little of the buzzer beating March Madness we've come to expect going into yesterday's Final Four with Gonzaga, Baylor, Arizona and UCLA ... until the last game of last night. The first game between Baylor and Arizona was a blowout win for #1 seed Baylor. But the second game between undefeated Gonzaga and #11 seed UCLA was an instant classic. The game went to OT where UCLA was down 2 with a "final possession". The UCLA point guard drove into the paint for a shot. The shot hit the front rim, but the point guard rebounded it for a game-tying lay-up. Then Gonzaga got the ball with 3.3 seconds remaining and made a buzzer beating half-court shot to advance to Monday's Championship Game. Here's how it happened:

March 19, 20241 yr Ranking Every Mascot in the 2024 NCAA Tournament Field PATRICK ANDRES 21 HOURS AGO SEC commissioner Greg Sankey made a crucial mistake over the last week when he suggested, implicitly, that the NCAA men’s basketball tournament should at some point become the domain only of teams from power conferences. It was a flagrantly incorrect reading of history that was rightly crushed. The NCAA men’s tournament is not solely the domain of blue bloods, or of mid- or low-major teams for that matter. The NCAA men’s tournament is the domain of mascots. That’s right. At no point in American sports do so many mascots get so much airtime in such a short window. If you enjoy anthropomorphic hijinks, this is your month. https://www.si.com/college/2024/03/18/ranking-every-mascot-mens-ncaa-tournament-field

April 1, 20241 yr Fun fact: There is already one NCAA basketball program that has both its men's and women's teams in the Final Four this year: NC State. Not UConn, you ask? Well, that could still happen, too: UConn men are already in and the #3-seed UConn women play #1-seed USC tomorrow (Monday) in the Elite Eight for a trip to Cleveland for the women's Final Four.

April 13, 20241 yr The misogynist tendency in me hates to yield to the basketball purist in me. But the ladies' game has surpassed the mens' game in term of watching the game being played at a team level. Don't get me wrong UCONN is so well-coached, but the men are so big and athletic, that they can just over power the team aspect of the game.
