Homeport’s 60-unit apartment project to boost downtown affordability

In an alignment with its mission to create "a healthy, stable home for all," real estate developer Homeport believes a new apartment building at the site of its former headquarters will bring much-needed affordability to the downtown Columbus rental market.

The nonprofit plans to construct 60 units on four stories atop a single-level garage at 562 E. Main St. It recently moved its operations to 3443 Agler Road on Columbus’ east side.

I'm liking this generally except it's interaction at ground level with the street - nothing but blank walls and tiny windows to nowhere.

Ideally there would be retail space, but if that's not viable for whatever reason at least a more interesting material treatment or possibly some public art would do a lot to improve the scheme IMO.

There's a lot of retail space already in this stretch of Main that needs to be activated. Some of those tenants might just be holding on right now.

This and the new hotel at Grant and Main will make a big difference for East Main, and IMO, just put more pressure on that atrocious McD's which is holding this area back.

This might be moving forward. I noticed a geotechnical firm on site today taking core samples.

I was wondering if this project was still a go.  Thanks for the update.
