Posted March 3, 20169 yr Hi Everyone, since you are so helpful, maybe you direct me to a good authentic Mexican Restaurant. I really liked Mi Pueblo on Lorain, but it has been closed for awhile. Went with my husband to Orale and had a good experience but looking for something with colorful décor and good, filling Mexican food for a couple on a budget. Also, not a loud place, something more relaxing.
March 3, 20169 yr Villa y zapata on Madison and 80 something is good, sketchy neighborhood. My fave in westpark is si senor.

March 4, 20169 yr There's nothing really like what Mi Pueblo was, but Villa y Zapata is definitely satisfying and not quite as generic as pretty much all the other Mexican places.

The loss of Mi Pueblo was a big one. However, it's gotten me to search out some hidden spots. Check out these reviews! http://www.yelp.com/biz/pupuseria-la-bendicion-cleveland There was another place right by this one, but I'm not finding it for some reason. [edit] Name change. Here it is: http://www.yelp.com/biz/miramar-cleveland Also I've had great experiences at Rincon Criollo in Gordon Square. And for something a little different try Barroco, though it's a little pricey.
March 4, 20169 yr ^Those aren't Mexican; Pupuseria la Bendicion and Miramar are Salvadoran and Rincon Criollo is Puerto Rican. I mean, similar foods can be found, but they are different. I only bring up the distinction because the OP asked for "authentic" Mexican food. With that said I do like those restaurants, especially Pupuseria la Bendicion. However, for good Mexican food that's cheap Las Dos Fronteras is great and I guess is pretty "authentic," although I don't like that term.

Oh, if you're looking for some amazing Mex, try La Plaza supermarket. It's casual cafe seating inside, and sometimes they have a taco cart out front. Not a restaurant setting, but so good I have to mention it.
March 4, 20169 yr I'm sure you wouldn't mind traveling way out east to Painesville, would you? Mexico, Only 30 Miles Away: The Best Authentic Tacos in Northeast Ohio Can Be Found, Of Course, in Painesville, in the Front of a Grocery Store By Douglas Trattner http://www.clevescene.com/cleveland/mexico-only-30-miles-away-the-best-authentic-tacos-in-northeast-ohio-can-be-found-of-course-in-painesville-in-the-back-of-a-grocery-store/Content?oid=3861162 http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
March 14, 20169 yr Thanks for all your replies. I have tried Las Dos Fronteres and agree it is good as is La Plaza supermarket. Didn't like Si Senor as much. Will give Vila y Zapata a try as well as the place on W. 105th and in Fairview Park.
March 14, 20169 yr West 117th is becoming Mexican food row (in addition to grocery store row). The newest Mexican restaurant is getting rave reviews (it serves South American foods too): El Torito Taqueria Bar and Grilled 1572 West 117th Street (north of Madison, south of Franklin http://eltoritobar.com/ "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
