Posted March 5, 20169 yr Hey everyone. I thought it would be fun to do a poll see where everyone in the Cleveland area lives. Feel free to use the poll and/or write where you live in a reply. My intention was to include more suburbs in the poll, but there are a lot of suburbs so I only included a few. Feel free to write it out! It'll be fun to see the results!
March 5, 20169 yr Are there cities or neighborhoods I should add to this poll? Perhaps options for Ohio/outside Greater Cleveland and Outside Ohio? clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
March 5, 20169 yr That starts to get unwieldy. There's 50+ municipalities in Cuyahoga County alone. Might be easier for Franklin County where it's Columbus and only a handful of other cities. March 6, 20169 yr Hey DJ, don't give up on raising a child downtown. The wife and I have raised our child to this point downtown and she's thriving. She currently goes to Campus International and the bus picks her up 2 feet from our front door. If I haven't mentioned yet, Campus International is an amazing multiracial school with phenominal teachers. This is not your Cleveland schools of the 90's. Kudos to Chief Gordon.

I would absolutely love for our family to stay downtown. For us, it's not that we don't want to raise a family downtown. We're looking at other Cleveland neighborhoods mostly for long-term financial reasons. If an opportunity will arise that allows us to move back, then we'll take it. And if we do, I'll definitely contact you to learn from your insight & experiences.
March 6, 20169 yr Glenville neighborhood Glenville is on there. I was surprised no one had said they live there yet.
March 6, 20169 yr Maybe you can name the Cleveland neighborhoods and then for the suburbs just say eastern and western suburbs.
March 6, 20169 yr Glenville neighborhood Glenville is on there. I was surprised no one had said they live there yet. Yeah, unfortunately the neighborhood population is dropping rather fast. Hopeful change occurs soon. Doubtful though.
March 6, 20169 yr Lots of people voting. This has been great! So far there have been 38 votes. 21 in Cleveland neighborhoods - all spread out pretty evenly. The most have been 4 in Downtown. And 3 each in Shaker Square & Detroit Shoreway. I'm surprised there has been no Collinwood, Slavic Village, or Clark-Fulton yet. 9 in Lakewood, Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights. The most have been 5 in Lakewood--and the most of one area total so far. 8 in the "Other Suburb" categories. 3 of these are in the East Side Suburbs category. All of these categories are broad strokes, which I understand. I wish I could have put more in, but as KJP said there are so many in Cuyahoga alone, I just wasn't sure which ones to put in. How big of a sample size do you think this is of those who live in NEO on this forum? 10%? 33%? And do you think that any area has been under/over represented so far?
March 6, 20169 yr Chagrin Falls area. We defected from downtown last year due to being out of space in our condo for having any more kids and not being able to afford anything much larger..... I do miss downtown in some respects!

I hope you like it. I loved Chagrin Falls/Bainbridge, my old stomping ground from 1978-93! Let me know if you have any historical questions. The fact that it's not cookie cutter played a large role in coming here - plus it was good for our opposite commutes to Mentor and Akron. And we have family nearby :).
March 9, 20169 yr We are still in S Euclid. Not sure for how much longer. When we move, we could move in (closer to the City) or we could move out (for more land and better public school system). We are really torn.
March 9, 20169 yr We are still in S Euclid. Not sure for how much longer. When we move, we could move in (closer to the City) or we could move out (for more land and better public school system). We are really torn. We were in Parma and went through the same thing about 6 years ago. We wanted to go to Ohio City or Tremont, and ended up in Medina, LOL. We are right in the square, which does have a cool vibe to it. Lots of rearaurants, quirky shops and tons of activities outdoors in the common areas for the kids. But, end of the day, we moved out here for the kids schooling. The Medina public schools are great, and is not a rural district like buckeye or highland. We don't have buses, so all the kids walk to school for elementary. Junior high and HS have buses. Our kids hang out in the square for a half hour after school, then walk over to the library before coming home (Medina has an awesome library). We're very happy with our choice. I work in the city, and the commute really isn't bad at all. My wife is a realtor here which is a fun job for a community like this. We decided when the kids start college, we'll live out our dream and move into the city. As for now, we're just trying to do what's best for the kids up-bringing.

March 9, 20169 yr ^definitely an option. And only half my name is a lie. I'm still in the 121 OK, fair enough, I'll allow it. You're still here in spirit. Along these lines - there have to be more than 3 of us from C.H.
March 9, 20169 yr ^definitely an option. And only half my name is a lie. I'm still in the 121 Oh you're in the weird section that can get one of multiple cities. When I lived in 44121, I got Cleveland, Cleveland Heights and South Euclid depending on the company.
March 22, 20169 yr Jefferson here. Wanted a small place with some parks to walk to as well as library and grocery stores. Not easy to find a newish house that is in good shape in a walkable neighborhood. Our choices seemed to be Old Brooklyn or Jefferson. Jefferson won out due to better transit and more shopping within walking distance.
March 22, 20169 yr Lyndhurst. Nice and quiet. Except that Mike Trivisonno lives Lyndhurst. That's got to bring down the housing values there.
March 22, 20169 yr Sorry, stupid - what is Glenville? I haven't even heard of that (again, sorry!). Boundaries?
March 22, 20169 yr Sorry, stupid - what is Glenville? I haven't even heard of that (again, sorry!). Boundaries? Google Maps has a neat feature that will outline the borders of a particular neighborhood or city. Neighborhood boundaries are not always consistent or well defined, but it can give you a good idea. Just type in "Glenville, Cleveland, OH" in Google Maps, for example, and it will pop up
March 22, 20169 yr It is the neighborhood on the east side surrounded (roughly) by UC, EC, Bratenahl, and Hough. Basically the swath north of UC going towards Bratenahl
March 22, 20169 yr Trust me, buyers were a lot more concerned with the schools rather than their being concerned with Triv residing there. ...edited for unnecessary clarity.
March 22, 20169 yr Apparently Triv and his (newer) wife were, for their part, at least somewhat concerned about the schools as his stepson does not attend Sunview.
March 22, 20169 yr It is the neighborhood on the east side surrounded (roughly) by UC, EC, Bratenahl, and Hough. Basically the swath north of UC going towards Bratenahl Glenville was a separate village until 1895 when it was annexed by Cleveland. It was the site of the famous and fancy Glenville Racetrack (on St. Clair between E. 88th and E. 101st, hosting horse, auto, bike races) and was the center of the city's Jewish population until the 1960s. Sadly, it was the site of the Glenville race riots in 1968 (two years after the more destructive Hough riots). There are still large synagogues standing in Glenville, especially along East 105th, although they serve different denominations or non-religious functions today. Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster grew up and lived in Glenville when they created the action comic strip Superman. Today, Glenville is famous for its high school athletics, especially more than a dozen football players who played in the NFL. March 22, 20169 yr BTW, I implemented this tool a couple months ago for people to define their neighborhood's boundaries by drawing it on a map :) http://skorasaur.us/nh/ It has a little over 100 results so far, evenly split between Akron and Cleveland. :) I encourage you to use so you can help define whether it's West Park, Kamm's Corner, or both; ;) and if you do, results from neighborhoods that you live or work in are preferred :)
May 27, 20169 yr Cudell here, relocating from about a mile away in Detroit-Shoreway. It seems like this neighborhood is pretty under-the-radar for the West side, but I think that makes sense since it's largely residential (Madison Ave is pretty gutted as far as how the old commercial stock is being used). There is really only the West Tech lofts and a bit of surrounding infill.

August 12, 20168 yr I live in "Madison Village" in Lakewood. Since I bought a house here 4 years ago, things have changed quite a bit! Scalish Construction moved their office in the neighborhood and has their own renovated storefront that also houses a photographer. Madison Park has gotten quite a few nice additions (new lighted path, renovated skatehouse) and the Screw Factory open houses are fun to go to. Taco Tonto's has added a really nice rear dining room. BottleHouse has moved in (finally, no more random bars!) and Woodstock has renovated the old Trio's into a great looking building (both of those in the last year actually!). Plus Source Yoga has moved into the neighborhood, a great addition. Quite a few poorly thought out businesses (like "Luv my Curvs" and that painted furniture store) have moved into various storefronts and gone out but they seem to be getting more "legit" as time goes on. A pretty decent looking karate place opened up a few storefronts down from Source Yoga a couple of months ago. Excited to see what the next 4 years brings. Plus I live within 10 minutes walking of Birdtown, probably my emotional favorite neighborhood in Lakewood which is awesome because that area has really gone up since I moved here as well. Love that little area that's developing right by Griffin Cider/STEM/the new Scalish renovation going on.

I moved in not far from you several months and hadn't heard of the Madison Village as the name of the neighborhood although it has existed for a while - http://www.cleveland.com/dining/index.ssf/2010/08/lakewood_shop_chain_link_addic.html That stretch of Madison needs some investment; there's several empty storefronts and their facades aren't in the best of shape. Fortunately, that area has gotten some recently, we'll if it continues!

Fortunately, that area has gotten some recently, we'll if it continues! Yeah, Madison Village was heavily based in alt culture which fell out of style in the late 2000s and the area suffered a lot. From what I've heard, for a while Madison Village was known for being an area getting worse and people tried to disassociate the name. The Lakewood Car Culture show used to be called Madison Village Car Culture or something like that. Definitely a bit of ways to go and we can definitely thank Mahalls for making the area cool again. I think the investment of Woodstock is a sure sign of things to come. Sent from my SHIELD Tablet K1 using Tapatalk

I think the investment of Woodstock is a sure sign of things to come. I moved to the area in 2004, right when the Madison Village heydey started to wane. It was a very edgy-yet-lively part of town back then, with the awesomely sci-fi Capsule Bar, B-ware video store, record stores, cool little galleries and at least three "adult" fetish stores to keep things extra interesting. All of these places are gone now, or relocated, and it's not quite what it was.....but luckily the indie vibe of the hood remains. I hold out hope that Madison can stay relatively free of the chain places for a long long time.
August 13, 20168 yr The area from Madison Park eastward is Birdtown. Madison Village is west of Bunts. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
