Posted May 1, 20169 yr Here's the second part of my visit to Pittsburgh last June. Part 1 Part 2 Do you ever have infrastructure envy? My camera died so I had to switch to my phone. After having walked all over downtown for several hours on a rather hot summer day (and after a night of excessive drinking), I called it quits and headed back to my car. Pittsburgh was a rather pleasant surprise, looking forward to an actual visit. Hope you enjoyed my little tour!
May 2, 20169 yr PGH has such a dense, grand downtown. Perhaps only Detroit approaches it for still holding on to that "imperial" feeling that so many Midwestern cities strove for. Here's hoping it keeps cleaning up and gets even more active. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
May 2, 20169 yr Great photo set. It amazes me how downtown Pittsburgh held on to so many great historic buildings and still features so many great, new modern structures at the same time, and all in a great compact area. To me the best skyline for a mid-sized city in America.
May 4, 20169 yr Agreed, the historic stock of buildings in downtown Pittsburgh was great and the amount of historic rehabs alongside new construction was amazing. The area was also very walkable and I also liked the transit fare zones, with all transit downtown being free.

To me the best skyline for a mid-sized city in America. Absolutely. These aspects make the Golden Triangle seem, in some ways, like a mini-Manhattan. It's amazing that Cleveland is only 120 miles away but so light years than Pittsburgh, visually at least. Particularly love a couple shots: - the little kid climbing on the stone lion - the mural with a bow-tied Andrew Carnegie under a hair dryer sitting next to a woman (or is it some other famous Pittsburgh guy? can't tell) doing the same... classic.

May 9, 20169 yr I have a huge soft spot for the Alcoa Building. And all of this. As for these chaffing at the separated bike lane, I understand that getting it was extremely arduous. That said, Pittsburgh has the 2nd highest % increase in bike commuting, after only DC I believe...
