The club, Metropolis was in this building, wasn’t it? Or is the whole block coming down?

New renderings for the “The Viaduct” - and I gotta say, I’m really blown away by this latest iteration!!   I absolutely love the greenery and trees integrated throughout the tower.

Alrighty... this was quite an interesting render! ? Because of the weird topology of the Flats compared to the rest of the city, things like the viaduct may seem a bit off height-wise, but I did m

^ That’s a big old block coming down right there. I hope someone has some good plans for it. Parking makes no sense whatsoever, seeing as it’s literally adjacent to an existing overgrown and unused parking lot.

My hovercraft is full of eels

Right it's the entire block.

They better have something great planned then because that would be a bummer to just have another empty lot there. I would imagine they have something planned right? Because why spend the demo money if not? Or is that too wishful thinking lol

Metropolis is / was on Spruce Ave, so not sure it's going to be taken down.  I have always held out hope that it'd be reopened as a club at some point.  Not looking good now though!!

Right.  Those parking craters are as large as what was previously in the Warehouse District prior to SHW development.

We're obsessed with tearing everything down in this city. But hey, cheap parking! Woo.

I would hate to see those come down, but they are part of the Nautica Waterfront project area:

Nautica Waterfront District

and they propose a midrise on that block

This is what is currently on their website.

I wish I had a website with pretty pictures on it.

And how many years ago was that project proposed?

Cheap property taxes once the buildings are gone. Our wonderful tax structure that rewards disinvestment and demolition, and punishes maintaining and proper upkeep.

Ken posted the news to Neo Trans in July of 2020, so not a crazy long time ago.

I’ve heard that there is something being developed here in the near future but can’t get too specific. Residential probably won’t be the focus, based on what I’ve heard. Should be an official announcement in the next 2 months.

The city really approved this? Unbelievable. On second thought, it's Cleveland, it's very believable. That building would have been a great residential conversion.

Definitely maybe someday someone will build something. We just need to wait a little bit longer.

The West Bank of the Flats is basically a giant parking lot. They could've started building without tearing this down.

Did some Googling and it looks like the original plan was announced in May 2016.  That was the plan with the moat around one of the buildings.

Yes that is correct. This thread started in May 2016 with a Crain's Article. But i could have sworn that it was even longer than that.

Either way - I do remember reading somewhere way back that MOST Likely nothing would happen until somewhere around 2023.

At that time it seemed like a pipe dream but guess what it is 2023.

That project would’ve cost 50% less in 2016 lol

The developers of Nautica are out of their depth and have been for 25 years.

Wasn't a project. They were pretty pictures shared by the owner as part of his property sale offering. Jeff Jacobs has no intention of developing anything in Cleveland.

It's been submitted for city approval. There is something going on in that area, however. I'll follow up on it after I get back from vacation next week.
