Posted June 28, 20168 yr In my quest to document Cincinnati's evolving urban core, I am sharing with you a very short thread of photos from Cincinnati's Pendleton neighborhood. Some may think it's a part of OTR, but technically it's a separate neighborhood wedged in by Sycamore Street, Reading Road, and Liberty Street. There is a lot of development happening in this small neighborhood with Broadway Square's second phase in progress and several other buildings under renovation as well. Mansfield Street: Broadway & 12th: Broadway Street (between 12th & 13th): Broadway & 13th: Pendleton Street: 13th & Pendleton: Dandridge Street: 13th Street: Bonus shots from Carew Tower (actually from Nov. 2015):
June 28, 20168 yr Pendleton is such a gem. It probably has the most "European" feel of any neighborhood in the city. I've always admired how the brick tenements, and especially the little plaza in front of the church at 12th and Spring, have such a distinctive, almost Italian flair to them. 13th Street has such a great scale, and I love that the neighborhood has actually managed to hold onto some of its Greek Revival style houses from the earliest years of Cincinnati's existence. Now if only they could do something with those lots across from Woodward! I always envisioned a narrow mall or arcade of some sort running north-south from 13th to Reading with new apartments lining the length of it. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

June 28, 20168 yr Thanks for the photo set. What I always notice about recent sets that show rooftops, is how few of the old standing-seam metal roofs remain.
June 28, 20168 yr By far one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Ohio if not the Midwest. Such a European flair, especially with the small narrow streets. I still daydream about about the potential those empty sycamore lots hold, and imagine new shops, restaurants, and lofts. Will be such a great way to intertwine OTR and Pendelton into one large neighborhood. Right now, that huge empty lot is making those 2 neighborhoods so divided. Equivalent to OTR North, and OTR South if you ask me.

July 18, 20168 yr Great photos, Travis. I spent some time yesterday evening walking around Pendleton, up and down 12th and 13th. There are a number of buildings that appear to be in some stage of rehabilitation, which is very exciting to see. Between the SCPA building and the dozen or so smaller buildings, Pendleton is poised to significantly add to its population. On a side note, it's intriguing that local developers have more or less cared out their own territory in OTR/Pendleton: 3CDC has Race and Vine; Urban Sites has Clay and Main; and Model has all of Pendleton.
July 18, 20168 yr Pendelton would look so slick if they took out the pavement, and had the area be nothing but belgium bricks. Considering how narrow the streets are in Pendelton, a European style woonerf would work really well.

July 19, 20168 yr Great shots of Pendleton! The last shot from the drone shows how much of a scar those surface lots south of SCPA are on the neighborhood. There is also the pretty large surface lot across from the Pendleton Arts Center, the surface lot next to The Verdin Event Center, and of course the hideous casino across from Reading. All of these things combine to create a pretty porous neighborhood boundary, and chip away at the already small Pendleton community. Hopefully we can see some pretty major infill on these lots in coming years. Even if just the SCPA lots could be built on, that would totally help to connect Pendleton to OTR. Right now it basically exists as an island.
