I'm looking at a house in Hudson (a mile north of the town center) and it has well water (which I have no experience with).

Thank you.

Does the well need to be zapped to pass inspection?

I lived in Hudson in high school and we had a well.  Of course it wasn't "my" house so I wasn't responsible for it per se, but my dad would come home from work with 80 lb bags of salt we'd have to lug down to the basement for the water softener.  One time my dad did have to get the well "retapped" (if that's the proper word), which I am sure wasn't cheap.

Since I don't even know what that means you've given me something to research. Thank you (since I know nothing about wells).

Thanks for the info. So you never had water issues like running out of water or low water pressure?

Every well is different. What city it's located in doesn't matter. Wells can go dry at any time. Keep in mind since that wells draw water from up to a 40 acre area, the activities of your neighbors can affect your water supply.

No issues with water pressure but I guess did run out once and have to retap a new well. That said, I think that's relatively rare. Plus, with well water you don't have to pay for monthly water, right? so maybe it evens out in the end.

Your electric bill goes up from running the water pump.

Makes sense.  Long story short - at least for me - I wouldn't have an issue buying a house with well water.

Yep.

Thanks for the information everyone. It was very helpful (especially since my starting point was knowing nothing about wells).
