Posted August 11, 20168 yr The following is my attempt to document Over-the-Rhine in its current state, as of Spring-Summer 2016! For anyone who's not familar with the neighborhood, please be aware that I skipped over the more polished areas of the neighborhood such as the "Gateway Quarter" area on Vine Street. This thread mostly covers the parts of the neighborhood that are currently undergoing development (or will be in the coming years). Sycamore Street 1200 block (even side): Main Street 1100 block (even side): 1200 block (odd side): 1300 block (even side): 1300 block (odd side): 1400 block (even side): 1400 block (odd side): During Second Sunday on Main: Clay Street 1300 block (odd side): Vine Street 1100 block (odd side): 1400 block (odd side): 15th & Vine development: Wielert's: Meiners Flats: 1600 block (odd side) between Liberty and Green: 1700 block (odd side) between Green and Elder: Republic Street 1400 block (even side) between 14th and 15th: 1500 block (even side) between 15th and Liberty: Race Street 1100 block (even side) between Central Parkway and 13th Street: New Race Street condos in the 1500 block (odd side): Vacant lot at Race and Liberty waiting to be developed: NE corner of Race and Liberty: 1600 block (even side) between Liberty and Green: 1600 block (odd side) between Liberty and Green: 1700 block (odd side) between Green and Findlay Market: Model Group is renovating most of the 1800 block (even side) of Race as part of a development called "Market Square": 1900 block (odd side) between Findlay and Henry: Pleasant Street 1500 block (odd side) between 15th and Liberty: Elm Street There are several major developments happening along Elm between Central Parkway and 14th Street. The historic YMCA building recently underwent a large renovation, a new Cincinnati Shakespeare Company theater is under construction, The Transept (venue in an old church) opened last year, and both Memorial Hall and Music Hall are currently being renovated. Here's the view from the Carew Tower: And from ground level: 1400 block (odd side) between Magnolia and 15th: 1500 block (even side) between 15th and Liberty: 1500 block (odd side) between 15th and Odeon: a month and a half later... The corner of Liberty and Elm presents many development opportunities. At the SE corner, a KFC-turned-cell phone store is begging to be demolished and replaced by something that fits into the neighborhood: And at the NW corner, a proposed development called LibertyElm is slated to replace this vacant lot: 1700 block of (odd side) between Green and Elder: 1800 block (odd side) between Elder and Findlay: Corner of Findlay and Elm (looking NE): Rhinegeist: Corner of McMicken and Elm: Liberty Street The city is studying several options for narrowing Liberty Street. Hopefully one of them moves forward, because it really serves as a dividing line for the neighborhood at the moment. August 11, 20168 yr I still struggle to process how quickly OTR is changing. I've been getting down there about once a month and even with that somewhat-high frequency I can't keep up with all of the new development. It's completely unreal. Amazing photos - I've been loving these drone shots and the fish-eye shots are great too. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
August 12, 20168 yr One of THE best threads ever on this site. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
August 13, 20168 yr Thank you for these photos- they are excellent! I think this photo set demonstrates how much work there is still to do in OTR, and how much potential there is for infill. At this point, OTR has lost enough historic stock that I think infill is actually a necessity for making the neighborhood feel whole again. When you get up near Findlay Market, it's almost embarrassing to see how many abandoned and severely run down buildings there are. I just spent the morning at Findlay Market, and I was shocked and appalled to see the condition of Green St., and several other stretches of Elm and Race that look disastrous. For as much progress as we've made, we have so, so much more work to do.
August 13, 20168 yr Which is honestly very exciting to me. That to think that EVERYTHING that we've seen up to this point is likely only 1/3 of what will eventually occur. That means so many opportunities for seriously powerful changes to occur within the neighborhood still. We likely have another 15-20 years of continual progress left in OTR which should be very exciting.
August 20, 20168 yr wow what an impressive thread - my jaw hit the floor. this is great work. its hard to believe all the redevelopment in otr. if there is a better example of the back to the city movement going on across our american cities i dont know it.
August 20, 20168 yr Wow - it's been too long since I've been to Cincinnati and the last time I was in Over-the-Rhine proper, I was cutting a rug with friends at Club DV8. Definitely need to check this out, looks amazing! clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
November 16, 20168 yr I wanted to add a few more aerial photos I took of Liberty Street to this thread. This is going to be a very dramatic change once the road diet is complete. Elm to Race: Vine to Walnut: Walnut to Main: At Main: At Sycamore:
