August 6, 20222 yr Sorry for the late update, but some interesting findings after stopping by Athens for a greek salad and baklava roll today and speaking with the owner. Athens still has 3 years left on their lease. They found out the plaza was sold when we did, and they aren't happy with how they've been treated by Visconsi recently. Not sure what Visconsi's plan is to redevelop the lot when they haven't settled on lease termination with their tenants. THE GOOD NEWS: Either way, Athens plans to stick around. They're already looking at new spots on State Rd. apparently.

I’m glad this particular structure is staying, but any guesses what it is? New pierogi shop? Fur coat emporium? I couldn’t find any permits on the city site.

This seems to be a recurring issue with local shops. My wife has to get Starbucks instead of buying local because literally no one is open at 5am except for them. There's a massive market these shops are missing out on for sure between cops, nurses, firefighters, and pretty much anyone on shift work who start their day before 7pm.

Or manufacturing, where most plants start at 6 or 7am. Dunkin (my preference) and Starbucks, some fast food places open that early. That's it. To be fair, the drive thru is pretty much mandatory for me at that hour as well. I'll hit up Six Shooter sometimes when I start late. I used to joke that you know it's a "hipster" neighborhood when the coffee shop opens at 7 or later, but have found it's more universal than that.

I always hoped someone would revitalize this site, it was a charming building. I fear it’s going to get turned into another gas station or something with a parking lot out front. If it were being redeveloped as a denser building, I could live with that. But by the looks of Memphis now, I’d be shocked to see such a proposal.

Years back, we bought our stove from an appliance store that was in the corer store. It'll be interesting to see what happens with this lot!!

And it specifically came up: "how cool of a name, Old Brooklyn Brewery...or the OBB." If anyone wants to go into business together, let know if we need some VA business loans. :) Back to this development--feels like the right place at the right time.

The site is big, along a freeway, I think at least partially visible from said freeway, and located somewhat in between the 2 earlier rumored sites (480 & Tiedeman and site along 480 on the other side of Valley View bridge.

I used to work for Wabash's biggest local competitor, Aluminum Smelting in Maple Heights. Their Indiana plant was the biggest aluminum recycling site in North America, we were 2nd. Thing is, we had a landfill and as far as I know, they didn't. Could be dross, flux, oil, even some lead buried there.

Also there was a worry that DG was going to move into the old Rite Aid spot, so not a full on win, but eh, there are much worse places.

For the last six years, Anthony Nunes Insana (together with his winery Vino Veritas) has been a sub-lessee of this property. The sublease is with the Cuyahoga County Land Bank, but the city of Cleveland has owned the property since 2005 and can change its agreement with the county and any sublessees, says newly elected Ward 13 Council Member Kris Harsh. June 13, 20232 yr ^he got busted a few years ago for not having the proper permits and licenses to host weddings. He then canceled upcoming weddings and kept the deposits. There were criminal charges involved. One of the wines used to be called cougar juice. That's how you know it's quality. The wines are made from grapes brought in from California. If only grapes could grow here.
June 14, 20232 yr A couple of rennovations/rehabs along Pearl rd south of the State rd split. The place next to Nunzio's with the construction wall had a fire early on in covid shutdown. Glad to see its getting rebuilt. Entire upfloor was completely gutted. The place next to Star has been boarded up and smelled like the wet dog Scooby-Doo buildings that used to be on Euclid Ave. The rate of construction makes me think it's a single person doing the work. The Geek Peek looks cool. Sadly it looks like one window pane has already been broken. Hopefully it was just construction related. There are a couple other buildings that have recently had work done. Now if we could only get some new construction on empty or underused lots, this neighborhood could achieve the dream of being another Gordon Square.

I'm pretty sure this was supposed to be a BBQ place, at least that's what the word was at last year's Farmers Market. I could also be off in location. Sixth City also had some glass that looked kicked when I was in there last week - seems like some punk kids had a weekend of it.
